An entropy-based machine learning algorithm for combining macroeconomic forecasts

This paper applies a Machine Learning approach with the aim of providing a single aggregated prediction from a set of individual predictions. Departing from the well-known maximum-entropy inference methodology, a new factor capturing the distance between the true and the estimated aggregated predictions presents a new problem. Algorithms such as ridge, lasso or elastic net help in finding a new methodology to tackle this issue. We carry out a simulation study to evaluate the performance of such a procedure and apply it in order to forecast and measure predictive ability using a dataset of predictions on Spanish gross domestic product.

Although there is consensus that inhibitory processes might be related to broaden the way of thinking, the neural underpinnings of these mechanisms are largely unknown. Here, we use functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a humorous alternative uses task and a stroop task, to investigate the brain mechanisms underlying the emergence of humorous ideas in 24 subjects. El neuroblastoma es el tumor sólido extracraneal más frecuente en la infancia y el cuarto en frecuencia en el conjunto global de neoplasias infantiles. Su incidencia en nuestro país, según el RNTI oscila entre 8-10 casos por millón de niños y año, por lo que su frecuencia supone alrededor de un 8-10% de todos los tumores en niños. Sin embargo, es el responsable de aproximadamente un 15% del total de muertes provocadas por cáncer pediátrico. This paper provides an overview of the experiences using Highly Instrumented Cars (HICs) in three research Centres across Europe; Spain, the UK and Greece. The data collection capability of each car is described and an overview presented relating to the relationship between the level of instrumentation and the research possible. A discussion then follows which considers the advantages and disadvantages of using HICs for ND research.
