Reflecting on Work Values with Young Unemployed Adults in Finland
2019
In this article, we explore the internal conversations about the work values of young unemployed adults in Finland. We draw on the theoretical concept of internal conversation by Margaret Archer in order to shift the focus from the individual work values to the interplay between subjective concerns and structural circumstances. The data consist of six group interviews conducted among 29 young unemployed adults. We argue that the internal conversations on work values of young unemployed adults constitute five significant concerns: self-realization and opportunity to contribute to society; sufficient income to live independently; social expectations; challenges of finding employment; and unsu…
Rules of Engagement: Family Rules on Young Children’s Access to and Use of Technologies
2018
This chapter reports on a study conducted in seven countries in which young children’s (aged under 8) digital practices in the home were examined. The study explored family practices with regard to access to and use of technologies, tracing the ways in which families managed risks and opportunities. Seventy families participated in the study, and interviews were undertaken with both parents and children, separately and together, in order to address the research aims. This chapter focuses on the data relating to parental mediation of young children’s digital practices. Findings indicate that parents used a narrow range of strategies in comparison to parents of older children, primarily becau…
Teenage Violence Toward Parents – in Search of the Theoretical Bases of a Research Tool
2020
The article contains an analysis of results of the available research on the phenomenon of children’s violence toward their parents. The main purpose of this interpretation is to search for the theoretical structure of a prepared research tool, initially called the Teen Violence Scale Toward Parents (TVSTP). The subject of the analyzes were works and research reports as well as police statistics containing information on the phenomenon of domestic violence, including teenage violence toward parents. As a result of the analysis, the theoretical function of the proposed research tool was distinguished, referring to types of violence possible to diagnose within this area. The proposed tool was…
Enterprise Architecture : A Perspective on How Far We Have Come, and Directions for the Future
2019
Enterprise Architecture (EA) appears to retain the attention of both practitioners and researchers, as the technological complexity of organizations grows. Several researchers have noted that research on EA has been diversifying over time, leading to inconsistent use of terminologies. Further, the benefit claims and other results, rather frequently, are not based on empirical evidence. These shortfalls in research on EA impede EA from maturing as a discipline and from demonstrating its benefit claims. Although there are reasons to believe that the research on EA has progressed, the extent of the progress and the directions for future research are not evident. This study draws on a meta-revi…
Technology Architecture as a Driver for Business Cooperation: Case Study - Public Sector Cooperation in Finland
2019
The current premise in the enterprise architecture (EA) literature is that business architecture defines all other EA architecture layers; information architecture, information systems architecture, and technology architecture. In this paper, we will study the ICT-cooperation between eight small and mid-sized municipalities and cities in Southern Finland. Our case demonstrates that the ICT-cooperation is possible without business cooperation and that ICT-cooperation can be a driver for future business cooperation. The findings challenge the current premise of the guiding force of the business architecture and encourage organisations’ ICT-functions to seek daringly cooperation with other org…
Systems Approaches in the Enterprise Architecture Field of Research: A Systematic Literature Review
2018
This study explores the use of the systems approaches (systems thinking and systems theories) as the theoretical underpinnings for Enterprise Architecture (EA) research. Both the academic and the practitioner communities have maintained an interest in EA due to its potential benefits, promising for the recent technological and business advances. EA as a research area is, however, characterized by diversified views depicted in different definitions of the concept, and no acknowledged common theoretical foundation. A number of prior studies have noticed this gap in the EA field of research, and called for a strengthening of the theory of EA. Variegated systems approaches have been suggested a…
Triggering sustainability communication in a B2B context: combining action research and sensemaking
2021
PurposeThe paper explores processes associated with the adoption of corporate sustainability communication in a B2B context. It employs a combined action research and sensemaking approach to document moments that precede the initiation of external sustainability communication.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is the outcome of an action research project, where we examine the case of one industrial company that was silent on its multiple sustainability-related practices, but recently decided to become more transparent to the outside world. A processual approach to sensemaking is adopted to show how organisational and non-organisational members actively participated in meaning co-construct…
The use of social media for knowledge acquisition and dissemination in B2B companies: an empirical study of Finnish technology industries
2019
Scholars and practitioners of knowledge management have paid increasing attention to the adoption of social media in business-to-business (B2B) setting for knowledge sharing; however, both the theoretical and empirical research in this domain are quite fragmented. The aim of this research is to deepen the understanding about the B2B companies’ awareness of the potentials of social media in improving their absorptive capacity and, consequently, if and how such companies deploy knowledge strategies based on social media adoption. We carried out an empirical survey of Finnish technology companies operating purely in B2B markets. Results highlight that social media adoption is still in a prelim…

Orientacja procesowa w zarządzaniu publicznym łańcuchem dostaw
2015
W artykule podjęto problematykę możliwości wdrożenia orientacji procesowej do zarządzania publicznym łańcuchem dostaw.
