Economic impact of mepolizumab in uncontrolled severe eosinophilic asthma, in real life
2021
Abstract Background and aims Severe asthma is burdened by frequent exacerbations and use of oral corticosteroids (OCS) which worsen patients’ health and increase healthcare spending. Aim of this study was to assess the clinical and economic effect of adding mepolizumab (MEP) for the treatment of these patients. Methods Patients >18 years old, referred to 8 asthma clinics, starting MEP between May 2017 and December 2018, were enrolled and followed-up for 12 months. Information in the 12 months before mepolizumab were collected retrospectively. The evaluation parameters included: OCS use, number of exacerbations/hospitalizations, concomitant therapies, comorbidity, and annual number of workin…
Relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and GERD
2018
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is due to the chronic exposure of the esophageal mucosa to acid secretion from the stomach. Helicobacter pylori (H.p.) infection, is a risk factor for the development of peptic ulcer, atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer, and causes various effects on gastric function. The relationship between GERD and H.pylori infection is still subject of debate. Background and aim: In literature no clear causal relationship has been established between GERD and H. pylori infection, although some papers support the onset of esophagitis in patients in whom the infection has been cured. Aim of this work is to review the most recent literature data about the relationshi…
Dexlansoprazole Delayed Release: Pharmacotherapy of Erosive Esophagitis and GERD
2011
Dexlansoprazole MR is a modified release formulation of the R-enantiomer of lansoprazole, which employs a novel Dual Delayed Release (DDR) technology. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that the DDR technology provides a two peaks drug release, accuring 1–2 hours and 4–5 hours after dosing, leading to an extended duration of therapeutic plasma drug concentrations compared with conventional delayed release lansoprazole. Dexlansoprazole MR 30 and 60 mg provided superior intragastric pH control compared to that obtained with lansoprazole 15 mg and 30 mg once daily dosing. Dexlansoprazole can be taken without regard to food. The drug has been shown to be as efficacious as lansoprazole in heali…
Flowers, Water accumulation and Corporate Social Responsibility: Certification of the Production of Roses and Claims for Environmental Justice in Ecu…
2018
Recurrent respiratory infections caused by a double aortic arch: The diagnostic role of spirometry
2013
AbstractA young woman with a clinical history characterized by recurrent respiratory infections, occurring since early infancy, was referred to our hospital. When the patient was a young girl, she underwent sweat chloride test, serum analysis of immunoglobulins, and evaluation of blood lymphocyte subsets; all these diagnostic tests were normal, as well as chest X ray aside from pneumonia episodes. Skin prick tests were positive for several different allergens, and a diagnosis of allergic rhinitis was made. At the age of 11 years, she started to complain of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms, and a gastroscopy detected a hiatal hernia with esophagitis. Despite pharmacologic trea…

The look of Gerda Taro and Robert Capa during the Second International Congress of Writers in Defense of Culture
2016
ABSTRACT: The Second International Cong…
GERD in the elderly: an endoscopic experience.
2013
Analyzing medical issues related to the elderly patients, particularly in the gastroenterological sphere, Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) seems to be a disease that reaches an important role in terms of diagnosis and therapy, as well as adversely affect the quality of life of these “frail” patients. Comorbidities that affect these patients often lead to reduce the importance of this disease, which in fact, not infrequently, it is difficult to identify because of mild symptom picture compared to younger patients. Is important to remember that GERD, although in most cases provokes only vague dyspeptic symptoms, can also lead to serious complications, such as bleeding especially in pat…
