Electrocatalytic carboxylation of chloroacetonitrile at a silver cathode for the synthesis of cyanoacetic acid

Abstract The electrocatalytic carboxylation of chloroacetonitrile to cyanoacetic acid performed at silver cathodes was investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Silver exhibits powerful electrocatalytic activities towards the reduction of chloroacetonitrile. In CO 2 -saturated CH 3 CN, reduction of NCCH 2 Cl occurs at potentials that are about 0.7 V more positive than those observed at glassy carbon and gives cyanoacetic acid in good yields. Biosilica aging: From enzyme-driven gelation via syneresis to chemical/biochemical hardening

Abstract Background The distinguished property of the siliceous sponge spicules is their enzyme (silicatein)-catalyzed biosilica formation. The enzymatically formed, non-structured biosilica product undergoes a molding, syneresis, and hardening process to form the species-specifically shaped, hard structured skeletal spicules. Besides of silicatein, a silicatein-associated protein, silintaphin-2, is assumed to be involved in the process of biosilica formation in vivo. Chain-extending of Hydroxytelechelic Polybutadiene: Synthesis and Characterization

Extension of hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene oligomers ( 3200 g/mol) is performed in mild conditions, in order to avoid backbone modifications, using succinic anhydride or methylenedicyclohexyl diisocyanate. The two routes present significative extension of the initial oligomers. Extension through the anhydride route, in the presence of DCC and DMAP, leads to new hydroxytelechelic oligomers ( 8000 g/mol). Extension through the diisocyanate route, catalyzed by DBTL at 65°C leads to hydroxytelechelic oligomers of higher average molecular weight ( 20000 g/mol). The influence of aluminium cations on electrocarboxylation processes in undivided cells with Al sacrificial anodes

Abstract The influence of Al cations on the electrochemical carboxylation of acenaphthylene ( 1 ), benzophenone ( 2 ), 6-methoxy-2-acetonaphthone ( 3 ), and benzyl chloride ( 4 ) has been investigated in dimethylformamide at a glassy carbon cathode. The Al 3+ ions were either added at the beginning of the experiment or were released from the anode during electrocarboxylation. It has been found that when Al cations are added to the reaction medium, they strongly influence the reduction process, in most cases leading to a complete change of the mechanism. Dichroic atomic vapor laser lock with multi-gigahertz stabilization range

A dichroic atomic vapor laser lock (DAVLL) system exploiting buffer-gas-filled millimeter-scale vapor cells is presented. This system offers similar stability as achievable with conventional DAVLL system using bulk vapor cells, but has several important advantages. In addition to its compactness, it may provide continuous stabilization in a multi-gigahertz range around the optical transition. This range may be controlled either by changing the temperature of the vapor or by application of a buffer gas under an appropriate pressure. Simple, Fast, Bright, and Stable Light Sources

In this work we show that solution-processed light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on only an ionic iridium complex and a small amount of ionic liquid exhibit exceptionally good performances when applying a pulsed current: sub-second turn-on times and almost constant high luminances (>600 cd m(-2) ) and power efficiencies over the first 600 h. This demonstrates the potential of LECs for applications in solid-state signage and lighting.

JIMWLK evolution of the odderon

We study the effects of a parity-odd "odderon" correlation in JIMWLK renormalization group evolution at high energy. Firstly we show that in the eikonal picture where the scattering is described by Wilson lines, one obtains a strict mathematical upper limit for the magnitude of the odderon amplitude compared to the parity even pomeron one. This limit increases with N_c, approaching infinity in the infinite N_c limit. We use a systematic extension of the Gaussian approximation including both 2- and 3-point correlations which enables us to close the system of equations even at finite N_c.
