El Glaucoma Primario de Ángulo Abierto (GPAA), la primera causa mundial de ceguera irreversible, aumenta su prevalencia en mayores de 40 años. El primer factor de riesgo es la hipertensión ocular (HTO). No existe un biomarcador que pueda identificar sujetos con mayor predisposición hacia el GPAA. Planteamos la búsqueda de biomarcadores moleculares que ayuden a predecir el riesgo de padecer la enfermedad o de progresión de la misma. The purpose of this study was to compare the thickness of all inner and outer macular layers between ocular hypertension (OHT) and early primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) 8 × 8 posterior pole algorithm (8 × 8 PPA). Fifty-seven eyes of 57 OHT individuals and fifty-seven eyes of 57 early POAG patients were included. Evidence for immunologic contribution to glaucoma pathophysiology is steadily increasing in ophthalmic research. Particularly, an altered abundance of circulating autoantibodies to ocular antigens is frequently observed. Here, we report an analysis of autoantibody abundancies to selected antigens in sera of open-angle glaucoma patients, subdivided into normal-tension glaucoma (N = 31), primary open-angle glaucoma (N = 43) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (N = 45), vs. a non-glaucomatous control group (N = 46). Abstract Objectives Primary open‐angle glaucoma (POAG) is a neurodegenerative disorder leading to a gradual vision loss caused by progressive damage to the optic nerve. Immunological processes are proposed to be involved in POAG pathogenesis. Altered serological autoantibody levels have been frequently reported, but complete analyses of the natural autoantibodies with respect to disease‐related alterations are scarce. Proteome alterations in aqueous humour of primary open angle glaucoma patients.

Aim To unravel the primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) related proteomic changes in aqueous humour (AH). Methods Totally 35 patients listed for cataract surgery (controls: n=12, age: 67.4±13.6y) or trabeculectomy for POAG (n=23, age: 72.5±8.3y) were included. AH samples of those patients were obtained during cataract surgery or trabeculectomy. AH samples were subsequently pooled into the experimental groups under equal contribution in terms of protein amount of each individual patient.
