Motility analysis by means of video tracked markers

2018

Abstract The motility of the gastrointestinal tract is crucial for digestive activity and dysfunction can lead to severe disease pattern. A method for analysing the motility is needed when treatment approaches shall be evaluated. Therefore markers attached to different locations on the stomach and the bowel of pigs are video tracked in this research study. The markers are designed to provide a high contrast and have an adhesive side for fixation. Above the operation field a video camera has been placed to film the markers during the procedure. To analyse the video data a special algorithm has been implemented. The algorithm requires a registration process at the beginning of each recording …

Segmental resection for the excision of two multicystic ameloblastoma

2014

Objectives. The purpose of this study was addressed at the understanding and management in the ameloblastoma treatment, performing a segmental surgical resection. Ameloblastoma represents nearly 1% of all neoplasm located Annali di Stomatologia 2014; Suppl. 3 to n. 2: 1-41 15 in the oral cavity. In 80% of cases it could be found in the mandible, of these lesions 70% are located in the molar re- gion or the ascending ramus, 20% in the premolar region and 10% in the anterior part. It is considered as a benign neoplasm with slow growing-pattern and locally aggressive behaviour. Methods. On the basis of clinicoradiological findings, ameloblastoma is divided into 3 groups: solid or multicyst…

Sensors based on MultiSpectral Filter Arrays

2014

International audience; Spectral Filter arrays (SFA) is an emerging technology for multispectral image acquisition. SFAs make possible the use of a compact multispectral sensor to acquire still images or video. One part of this talk will present and compare typical multispectral and color image acquisition systems in order to clearly identify differences underlying SFA technologies. The other part of this talk will show the difficulties and advances that we have made at the University of Bourgogne in the building of such sensors from the design of filters to data processing, such as demosaicing.

Anti-senescence and Anti-inflammatory Effects of the C-terminal Moiety of PTHrP Peptides in OA Osteoblasts.

2016

Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by degenerative changes in the whole joint leading to physical disability in the elderly population. This condition is associated with altered bone metabolism in subchondral areas suggesting that therapeutic strategies aimed at modifying bone cell metabolism may be of interest. We have investigated the effects of several parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP)-derived peptides (1-37): (N-terminal), (107-111) and (107-139) (C-terminal) on senescence features induced by inflammatory stress in human OA osteoblasts. Incubation of these primary cells with interleukin(IL)-1β led to an increased expression of senescence markers senescence-associated-β-galac…

Clonal heterogeneity of the growth and invasive response of a human breast carcinoma cell line to parathyroid hormone-related peptide fragments

1997

It has been previously reported that 8701-BC cells, derived from a primary carcinoma of the breast, constitutively express parathyroid hormone (PTH)-related peptide (PTHrP) and PTH/PTHrP receptor (PTH/PTHrP-R) genes, that N-terminal, mid-regional and C-terminal immunoreactive PTHrP can be found in cell conditioned medium and, furthermore, that exogenously added PTHrP (1-34), (67-86) and, to a minor extent, (107-139) are anti-mitogenic but promote Matrigel invasion by this cell line. It has also been reported that PTHrP gene expression is selectively switched on in those 8701-BC clonal lines endowed with a higher proliferation rate and invasive ability in vitro. Here we have first examined t…

Arthroscopic approach for treating a pigmented villonodular sinovitis of TMJ. A case report

2017

The present report describes the case of a 29-year-old man referred to our service for TMJ pain and progressive reduction of the mouth opening. Differential diagnostics included rheumatologic diseases, monoarthritis and intraarticular lumps. In this line, a face CT scan and a MRI of TMJ were carried out in order to ensure a proper diagnosis. These tests showed a solid lesion into the joint cavity. In view of that, we decided to perform a diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy of TMJ. Histopathological studies confirmed the diagnosis of pigmented villonodular synovitis. The main aim of this report is to describe this rare syndrome with the goal of proposing suitable treatments. Moreover, we …

Modulation of type II collagen-induced arthritis in DBA/1 mice by intravenous application of a peptide from the C1q-A chain.

1992

In this report we are able to show that intravenous (i.v.) application (day 0) of a nonapeptide (residues 26-34) from the human C1q A-chain (designated peptide A-C1q) prior to intradermal (i.d.) administration of chicken type II collagen (CII) in arthritis-susceptible DBA/1 mice (H2q), leads to abrogation of polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) invasion into the joints. This nonapeptide exhibits epitope characteristics and high homology to residues 137-147 of CB11 (a cyanogen bromide fragment of chicken CII, known to contain both arthritis inducing and suppressing determinants). Arthritis index was lowest in animals pretreated i.v. with CII (as internal control), though animals pretreated i.v…

Use of accelerometers and gyros for hip and knee angle estimation

2013

In this paper a wearable sensor system, consisting of accelerometers and gyros, has been studied to estimate hip and knee angles. The proposed algorithm, developed in order to avoid the error accumulation due to gyroscopes drift, has been tested on angle measurement of the hip and knee of a commercial device for assisted gait. The results have shown a good accuracy of the angles estimation, also in high angle rate movement

Effects of musicianship and experimental task on perceptual segmentation

2015

The perceptual structure of music is a fundamental issue in music psychology that can be systematically addressed via computational models. This study estimated the contribution of spectral, rhythmic and tonal descriptors for prediction of perceptual segmentation across stimuli. In a real-time task, 18 musicians and 18 non-musicians indicated perceived instants of significant change for six ongoing musical stimuli. In a second task, 18 musicians parsed the same stimuli using audio editing software to provide non-real-time segmentation annotations. We built computational models based on a non-linear fuzzy integration of basic and interaction descriptors of local musical novelty. We found tha…
