Integration of Two Multiobjective Optimization Methods for Nonlinear Problems
2003
In this paper, we bring together two existing methods for solving multiobjective optimization problems described by nonlinear mathematical models and create methods that benefit from both heir strengths. We use the Feasible Goals Method and the NIMBUS method to form new hybrid approaches. The Feasible Goals Method (FGM) is a graphic decision support tool that combines ideas of goal programming and multiobjective methods. It is based on the transformation of numerical information given by mathematical models into a variety of feasible criterion vectors (that is, feasible goals). Visual interactive display of this variety provides information about the problem that helps the decision maker to…
Identification of Explanatory Variables in Possession of the Ball in High-Performance Women’s Football
2021
[Abstrac] Women’s football is a phenomenon that is experiencing an unstoppable increase in recent years. The objective of this study was to analyze how ball possessions are performed in highperformance women’s football. For this, the 52 matches played by all the national teams participating in the Women’s World Cup 2015 were analyzed. A total of 3740 ball possessions were examined. Using the “move outcome” variable as a reference criterion, a statistically significant relationship was found between possessions that ended in success and possessions that have failed. Specifically, the successful possessions were those that were made in the offensive zone, with a clear intention to progress to…
Response calculations based on an independent particle system with the exact one-particle density matrix: Excitation energies
2012
Adiabatic response time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) suffers from the restriction to basically an occupied → virtual single excitation formulation. Adiabatic time-dependent density matrix functional theory allows to break away from this restriction. Problematic excitations for TDDFT, viz. bonding-antibonding, double, charge transfer, and higher excitations, are calculated along the bond-dissociation coordinate of the prototype molecules H2 and HeH+ using the recently developed adiabatic linear response phase-including (PI) natural orbital theory (PINO). The possibility to systematically increase the scope of the calculation from excitations out of (strongly) occupied into wea…
Determination of ruthenium in photographic emulsions - Development and comparison of different sample treatments and mass spectrometric methods
1999
Different sample treatment procedures were combined with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and negative thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (NTI-MS) for the determination of ruthenium traces in photographic emulsions. Dissolution of the samples in concentrated ammonia solution was used in connection with ICP-MS by external calibration, which has the advantage of a simple sample preparation technique but introduces high amounts of the silver matrix into the mass spectrometer. On the other hand, isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) with an enriched 99Ru spike solution was applied for ICP-MS and NTI-MS measurements, respectively, in connection with a significant reduc…
The right to protection against poverty and social exclusion as a paradigm of respect for human dignity. The integration of the minimum vital income …
2020
Old World Megadroughts and Pluvials During the Common Era
2015
An atlas of megadroughts in Europe and in the Mediterranean Basin during the Common Era provides insights into climate variability.
Impact of medications on salivary flow rate in patients with xerostomia: a retrospective study by the Xeromeds Consortium
2022
OBJECTIVES: This study evaluates the impact of systemic medications and polypharmacy on unstimulated (UWS) and chewing-stimulated whole saliva (SWS) flow rates in patients with xerostomia.MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional multicenter study is based on data of patients referred to five oral medicine outpatient practices in Europe and USA from January 2000 and April 2014. Relevant demographic, social, medical history and current medications were collected.RESULTS: The study included 1144 patients, 972 (85%) females, with a mean (SD) age of 59 (14.1) years. In unmatched patients, the UWS flow rate was lower in patients taking a medication (vs. not taking a medication) from the followi…
Airport Charges Policy as a Tool for Achieving Competitive Advantage in the Aviation Market
2020
Air transportation plays an important socio-economic role, and an airport, as part of the transportation system, is a significant component of the national infrastructure. The airport is not just a provider of aviation services, whose activities are regulated by the state, but is a self-sustainable commercial complex with its own business goals and development strategy aimed at the growth and economic efficiency of operations. Strengthening its position in the Nordic region is the strategic goal of Riga International Airport. Competitive advantage in airport charges policy should contribute to the accomplishment of this strategic goal - Riga Airport should be the first choice for airport tr…
Sustainable tourist development in Italian holiday destinations
2008
This paper argues that tourism, will become a major activity in a modern welfare state, which will have serious consequences for environmental sustainability. This issue calls for an assessment of the pros and cons of the ecological efficiency of tourism. We propose an overall efficiency indicator that comprises both a sustainable tourism index and an economic efficiency index. Based on a data set for Italian provinces and using Activity Analysis, a quantitative assessment of the relative position of Italian tourist destination areas is made from the perspective of sustainable tourism. After the Millennium Development Goals. Remarks on the ethical assessment of global poverty reduction success
2018
The Millennium Development Goals were effective from 2000 to 2015. Statistics show that most of the goals were met, and particularly success in the goal of reducing extreme poverty (MDG1) gained wide recognition. Despite the strong ethical language related to poverty reduction, there has been little analysis of the ethical significance of the MDG achievements. Since statistical and ethical definitions and representations of poverty never completely overlap, conclusions concerning ethical progress are not directly available from the statistics. This article shows how this ethical significance can be analysed and what kinds of controversies and uncertainties relate to the issue. As part of th…
