Eco-extraction and encapsulation of carotenoid and anthocyanin pigments from tropical plants
2018
This thesis deals with extraction processes using assistance technologies or green solvents and encapsulation systems of natural pigments in order to exploit and apply them in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. In this goal, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) and Ionic liquids (IL) were evaluated for the extraction of carotenoids and anthocyanins from Vietnamese plants. The results obtained show that the MAE was always a rapid and helpful system for all types of extraction tested whereas ultrasounds were particularly efficient when pigments are present on the surface of plant tissues. However, UAE was also improving results compared to c…
Gaussian Process Sensitivity Analysis for Oceanic Chlorophyll Estimation
2017
Source at https://doi.org/10.1109/JSTARS.2016.2641583. Gaussian process regression (GPR) has experienced tremendous success in biophysical parameter retrieval in the past years. The GPR provides a full posterior predictive distribution so one can derive mean and variance predictive estimates, i.e., point-wise predictions and associated confidence intervals. GPR typically uses translation invariant covariances that make the prediction function very flexible and nonlinear. This, however, makes the relative relevance of the input features hardly accessible, unlike in linear prediction models. In this paper, we introduce the sensitivity analysis of the GPR predictive mean and variance functions…

Corporate governance and determinants that explain CEO compensation in Indonesia
2011
Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2011 This thesis examines determinants that can help explain CEO remuneration in an Asian emerging market, focusing on Indonesia. Our sample consists of 46 Indonesian stock listed companies, and we use data from recently expanded rules on disclosure to analyze the level and structure of compensation for the CEO - domestically known as the president director. Looking at corporate governance arrangements, firm performance, and CEO characteristics, our empirical evidence reveals a significant positive relationship between firm size and CEO pay. No further significant relationships are found between CEO compensation and our remai…
Determinants of CEO compensation in Pakistan from 2007 to 2009
2010
Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2010 Most studies of the determinants of executive compensation are based on the experience of developed countries. This paper examines the relationship between firm size, firm performance and board composition on CEO compensation, in the context of an emerging and developing economy of Pakistan. Data for 83 listed firms from Lahore stock exchange, Pakistan has been used for 2007 to 2009. The findings show that firm size is one of the major determining factors of CEO compensation rather than performance. A family recruited CEO has a negative and significant effect upon the CEO compensation. In this study we also look at a num…
The impact of job satisfaction on perceived desirability of leaving : a study in cable manufacturing organizations in Sri Lanka
2011
Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2011 The job satisfaction level is a key determinant for the employees’ leaving or retention decisions. The satisfied employees have a tendency to stay in the organization while the dissatisfied employees have a greater tendency to leave the organization. The research study on impact of job satisfaction on perceived desirability of leaving was conducted by selecting the executive level employees in cable manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka. The main objective of this study was to examine the impact of job satisfaction on perceived desirability of leaving. This was split into three sub objectives as; to examine the type of rel…

Archaeological excavation confirms the geophysical anomalies recorded at the cathedral of tarragona - A comparative study
2011
An integrated geophysical survey was conducted in September 2007 at the Cathedral of Tarragona to search for archaeological remains of the Roman temple dedicated to the Emperor Augustus. Many hypotheses about its location have been put forward, the most recent ones suggesting it could be inside the present cathedral. A project including Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and Ground probing radar (GPR) was planned for a year and conducted during a week of intensive field survey. Both ERT and GPR provided detailed information about subsoil structures. Different ERT techniques and arrays were used, ranging from standard Wenner-Schlumberger 2D sections to full 3D electrical imaging using t…
Mentoring of newly qualified teachers. A bilateral comparison between Germany and Finland
2017
(DIPF/Orig.) Internationally, mentoring is a well-recognized practice in supporting newly qualified teachers. Based on theoretical and empirical understanding, this paper compares mentoring practices in two countries: Germany and Finland. The theoretical framework …
Identification and functional binding analysis of GPR23/! LPA4 as a candidate G protein-coupled receptor for Guanosine.
2013
Several studies have shown that guanine-based purines exert biological effects on the central nervous system (CNS), possibly through membrane receptors, but at the present there are not reports related to the identification of such specific receptor(s). We have identified the first guanosine G protein-coupled receptor GPR23, also known as LPA4 receptor, involved in the modulation of guanosine-mediated antiproliferative effects in human glioma cell line (U87). We report that the silencing of GPR23 reduces significantly the antiproliferative effects of guanosine, while stably transfected cell clones over-expressing GPR23 increase sensitivity to guanosine. [3H] Guanosine radioligand binding as…
