This chapter deals with the so-called "absolute construction", an adverbial prepositional phrase headed by the preposition 'con' ('with') followed by a noun and a pseudo-relative clause (e.g. "Con Maria che piange, non possiamo uscire"). The main aim of the chapter is to show that Pseudo-relative clauses can have three different structures, and that two different types are used in the absolute construction, depending on the degree of syntactic integration of the prepositional phrase in the main clause. Epistemic uses of the verb decir in La Paz Spanish Digamos and dice

This paper explores semantic extensions and pragmatic functions of two evidential forms found in La Paz Spanish, digamos ‘let’s say’ and dice ‘s/he says’. Both forms are inflected forms of the verb decir ‘to say’. The form dice ‘s/he says’ has the function of a reported evidential form, conforming to results from previous studies (Babel 2009; Olbertz 2007; Travis 2006; Laprade 1981), while the form digamos is used according to a previously unnoticed function of an inferential evidential.

Il volume è destinato ai principianti — studenti di corsi universitari, privati o autodidatti — che vogliono avvicinarsi gradualmente al livello elementare (A2) di conoscenza della lingua ucraina. Consta di una parte introduttiva, in cui vengono esposte le basi della grafia e della fonetica, e di quattordici moduli, ognuno dei quali presenta una serie di argomenti grammaticali e lessicali. Testi arabi di Sicilia. Un esempio di disputa linguistica

Il mio contributo si propone di illustrare un testo esemplare dei rapporti culturali tra la Sicilia e la civiltà islamica. Il testo si intitola Taṯqīf al-lisān wa talqīḥ al-ǧanān di Abū Ḥafṣ ῾Umar Ibn Ḫalaf Ibn Makkī al-Ḥamīrī al-Māzirī al-Ṣiqillī, grammatico e linguista ed è un esempio della lingua araba parlata in Sicilia nel X secolo , quando l'isola era un emirato sotto il dominio islamico. Il Taṯqīf al-lisān, composto da cinquanta capitoli, il trattato elenca gli errori grammaticali commessi dai siciliani sia persone comuni (al-'amma) che dotti (al-muḫaṣṣiṣūn). Sull’espressione non prototipica dell’agentività nei testi siciliani del XIV secolo

L’esistenza di più opzioni lessicali per la codifica dell’agente nelle costruzioni passive dell’italoromanzo è sempre stata assunta come semplice dato di fatto. Tuttavia, un’analisi accurata dei testi rivela l’esistenza di una distribuzione funzionale, che si manifesta in modo coerente, sebbene non identico, nei diversi vernacoli. Sulla base di quest’osservazione, viene formulata e testata l’ipotesi secondo cui tale distribuzione sia semanticamente determinata: essa si motiva nel tipo di rappresentazione dell’evento codificato dalle due preposizioni, che articola in forme diverse la nozione di agentività. In this paper, we present a new open-source software library, Gl-learning, for grammatical inference. The rise of new application scenarios in recent years has required optimized methods to address knowledge extraction from huge amounts of data and to model highly complex systems. Our library implements the main state-of-the-art algorithms in the grammatical inference field (RPNI, EDSM, L*), redesigned through the OpenMP library for a parallel execution that drastically decreases execution times. Challenges of Program Synthesis with Grammatical Evolution

Program synthesis is an emerging research topic in the field of EC with the potential to improve real-world software development. Grammar-guided approaches like GE are suitable for program synthesis as they can express common programming languages with their required properties. This work uses common software metrics (lines of code, McCabe metric, size and depth of the abstract syntax tree) for an analysis of GE’s search behavior and the resulting problem structure. We find that GE is not able to solve program synthesis problems, where correct solutions have higher values of the McCabe metric (which means they require conditions or loops).
