Single- and multi-photon production in e+e− collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV

1998

The production of final states involving one or more energetic photons from e(+)e(-) collisions is studied in a sample of 58.5 pb(-1) of data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV by the ALEPH detector at LEP. The e(+)e(-) --> v (v) over bar gamma(gamma) and e(+)e(-) --> gamma gamma(gamma) cross sections are measured. The data are in good agreement with predictions based on the Standard Model and are used to set upper limits on the cross sections for anomalous photon production in the context of two supersymmetric models and for various extensions to QED. In particular, in the context of a super-light gravitino model a cross section upper limit of 0.38 pb is placed on the process e…

Search for nonpointing photons in the diphoton andETmissfinal state ins=7  TeVproton-proton collisions using the ATLAS detector

2013

A search has been performed for photons originating in the decay of a neutral long-lived particle, exploiting the capabilities of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter to make precise measurements of the flight direction of photons, as well as the calorimeter's excellent time resolution. The search has been made in the diphoton plus missing transverse energy final state, using the full data sample of 4.8 fb(-1) of 7 TeV proton-proton collisions collected in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No excess is observed above the background expected from Standard Model processes. The results are used to set exclusion limits in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models, with…

Search forZγevents with large missing transverse energy inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2012

We present the first search for new phenomena in Z gamma final states with large missing transverse energy using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.2 fb(-1) collected with the D0 experiment in p (p) over bar collisions at root s 1.96 TeV. This signature is predicted in gauge-mediated supersymmetry-breaking models, where the lightest neutralino (chi) over tilde (0)(1) is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and is produced in pairs, possibly through decay from heavier supersymmetric particles. The (chi) over tilde (0)(1) can decay either to a Z boson or a photon and an associated gravitino that escapes detection. We exclude this model at the 95% C.L. for supersymmetr…

ON THE STABILITY OF SUPERSYMMETRY IN CURVED SPACE-TIME

1990

We discuss the stability of the classical supergravity background in a simple supersymmetric model at the quantum level, showing that two different pictures emerge depending on whether the emphasis is placed on the conformal invariance or on the supersymmetry invariance of the theory.

R parity violation assisted thermal leptogenesis in the seesaw mechanism.

2005

Successful leptogenesis within the simplest type I supersymmetric seesaw mechanism requires the lightest of the three right-handed neutrino supermultiplets to be heavier than $\sim10^9$ GeV. Thermal production of such (s)neutrinos requires very high reheating temperatures which result in an overproduction of gravitinos with catastrophic consequences for the evolution of the universe. In this letter, we let R-parity be violated through a $\lambda_i \hat{N}_i \hat{H}_u \hat{H}_d$ term in the superpotential, where $\hat{N}_i$ are right-handed neutrino supermultiplets. We show that in the presence of this term, the produced lepton-antilepton asymmetry can be enhanced. As a result, even for $\ha…

METing SUSY on the Z peak

2016

Recently the ATLAS experiment announced a 3 $\sigma$ excess at the Z-peak consisting of 29 pairs of leptons together with two or more jets, $E_T^{\rm miss}> 225$ GeV and $H_T \geq 600$ GeV, to be compared with $10.6 \pm 3.2$ expected lepton pairs in the Standard Model. No excess outside the Z-peak was observed. By trying to explain this signal with SUSY we find that only relatively light gluinos, $m_{\tilde g} \lesssim 1.2$ TeV, together with a heavy neutralino NLSP of $m_{\tilde \chi} \gtrsim 400$ GeV decaying predominantly to Z-boson plus a light gravitino, such that nearly every gluino produces at least one Z-boson in its decay chain, could reproduce the excess. We construct an explicit …

Search for pair production of Higgsinos in final states with at least three b -tagged jets in s=13  TeV pp collisions using the ATLAS detector

2018

A search for pair production of the supersymmetric partners of the Higgs boson (higgsinos H˜) in gauge-mediated scenarios is reported. Each higgsino is assumed to decay to a Higgs boson and a gravitino. Two complementary analyses, targeting high- and low-mass signals, are performed to maximize sensitivity. The two analyses utilize LHC pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy s=13  TeV, the former with an integrated luminosity of 36.1  fb-1 and the latter with 24.3  fb-1, collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. The search is performed in events containing missing transverse momentum and several energetic jets, at least three of which must be identified as b-quark jets. No sig…

Search for dark photons from supersymmetric hidden valleys

2009

We search for a new light gauge boson, a dark photon, with the D0 experiment. In the model we consider, supersymmetric partners are pair produced and cascade to lightest neutralinos that can decay into the hidden sector state plus either a photon or a dark photon. The dark photon decays through its mixing with a photon into fermion pairs. We therefore investigate a previously unexplored final state that contains a photon, two spatially close leptons, and large missing transverse energy. We do not observe any evidence for dark photons and set a limit on their production.
