Generation Z and Organizational Listening on Social Media
2020
Young people are avid users of social media and have appeared as a powerful force for social change, as shown by the ranks of those who have joined Greta Thunberg in the global climate movement. In addition to challenging political institutions and governments, young people today are also holding the corporate world accountable. To respond to young people’s expectations, brands, and organizations have turned to social media to interact and build relationships with them. However, critics have lamented that these attempts often fail and that young people’s trust in institutions, brands, and organizations continues to decline. This article asks how young people perceive organizational listenin…
Effects of external imbalances on GDP recovery patterns
2021
Abstract A decade after the beginning of the Great Recession, flow external imbalances, measured by the current account (CA) have narrowed markedly. However, stock or net foreign assets (NFA) imbalances have kept increasing and have created challenges for future macroeconomic and financial stability. To date, early warning systems (scoreboards) have focused more on flow than on stock variables. To approach this problem, in this paper we analyze expansions using two complementary sets of indicators proposed by Harding and Pagan (2002) and Gadea et al. (2017) for the period 1950–2016. After controlling for a large set of explanatory variables, we find that the effect of CA imbalances is limit…
Prospects for the return of Spanish scientists in the United Kingdom during the Great Recession

The economic crisis that began in 2008 caused an increase in skilled Spanish emigration, including scientists, many of whom settled in the United Kingdom. The objective of this article is to analys...
2019
The Shanghai weekly magazine Ouzhan shibao was the longest-running and most suc- cessful Chinese war magazine reporting the latest circumstances of First World War. Its rich rep- ertoire of war reports and battlefield photographs provided the Chinese readership with vivid and exhaustive accounts, but being a French ruled magazine it did not conceal its bias toward the Allied powers and against Germany. In this perspective, Chinese interests were discussed as part of a global strategy, but never defended per se, as demonstrated by the positive depiction of Japan, an Allied country but still a fierce antagonist of Chinese sovereignty.
The landscape of strongholds
2016
Territorial defence led to extraordinary results in terms of forming and transforming the territory and landscape, at times with spectacular sights and incredible sizes. The one hundred year anniversary since the beginning of the F…
Disappearance rates of old nest material from tree cavities : an experimental study
2013
Numerous forest organisms critically depend on availability of tree cavities. Some birds and rodents fill their cavities with bulky nests, which – if not removed – could accumulate and render cavities unusable, as recorded in nest-box studies. Data from earlier studies indicate that old nests can disappear from tree cavities so fast that practically no remnants are detectable the following spring. Rapid decomposition of nests in situ, augmented by physical removal of nest material by the cavity-users have been proposed as possible causative mechanisms. We tested these hypotheses in cavities used by tits (Parus major L., Poecile palustris L.) in the Białowieża National Park (E Poland). To mi…
Voennye dejstviȃ v Livonnii v načale XVIII v. v doneseniȃh iz Berlina anglijskogo posla Filippa Plantamura
2019
An important element in current historical research is the analysis of diplomatic relations focusing on the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They show the history of the Polish-Lithuanian state, its internal and foreign policy from a different historical perspective. In 1700, the Great Northern War broke out and changed the political power system in Central and Eastern Europe for the next decades. Diplomats from foreign courts were interested in this war, including Philippe Plantamour, secretary of the British embassy in Berlin. He sent his reports to the British Isles in which he posted information on warfare in Livonia. The aim of the article will be to analyze diplomatic reports that can …
Diversity and distribution of feather lice on Greater Flamingoes (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus) in the Camargue, southern France
2002
Feather lice were collected from 2S0 chicks of the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus Pallas) captured alive in the Camargue, southern France, in July 1997. Five louse species were identified: Colpocephalum heterosoma Piaget, Colpocephalum salimalii Clay and Trinoton femoratum Piaget of the family Menoponidae; Anaticola phoenicopteri (Coinde) and Anatoecus pygaspis (Nitzsch [in Giebel]) of the family Philopteridae. Our collecting results also show that there is body-site segregation among the several louse species inhabiting the same host individual.
Sex- and age-related variation in survival and cost of first reproduction in Greater Flamingos
2001
International audience; We analyzed survival of breeding Greater Flamingos, Phoenicopterus ruber roseus, using the capture histories of 2000 breeding birds ringed as chicks and resighted at their natal colony in the Camargue, southern France. As found in previous analyses, recapture probability varied according to year, sex, and age of the bird, and annual survival was strongly affected by winter severity. However, by using a much larger data set than in earlier analyses, we detected previously nonsignificant effects. Indeed, for the first time, sex and age of the bird were found to influence annual survival probability. We tested the hypothesis that the observed sex-related difference in s…
