Design, implementation and experimental results of an inductive power transfer system for electric bicycle wireless charging

2020

The use of renewable energy and the transformation of transport mode are crucial items for achieving an efficient and clean electrical mobility that allow being competitive on the market. In this context the interface between the power system and the Electric Vehicles (EVs) assumes a strategic role. Specifically, wireless energy transmission, based on Inductive Power Transfer (IPT), is an attractive solution for EVs charging. Moreover, the use of electric bicycles or kick scooters as mode of urban transport is continuously growing because they are lightweight, sustainable, easily parking, flexible and efficient transport devices. Owing to its benefits, the wireless power transfer can be con…

Generalization Capacity Analysis of Non- Intrusive Load Monitoring using Deep Learning

2020

Appliance Load Monitoring is a technique used to monitor devices existing in homes, industry or naval vessels. Acquisition of device-level data can provide great benefits in many areas such as energy management, demand response, and load forecasting. However, the monitoring process is often provided with a costly installation, as it requires a large number of sensors and a data center. Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) is an alternative and cost-efficient load monitoring solution. Simply put, NILM is the process of obtaining device-level data by analyzing the aggregated data read from the main meter that measures the electricity consumption of the whole house. Before NILM analysis is per…

Proper sizing of energy storage for grid connected photovoltaic system

2014

Masteroppgave i fornybar energi ENE 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 The requirement of an energy storage to a grid connected PV system, is highly desirable in cases like power outages. Another importance is to reduce the peak time electricity buying from the utility grid and discharging the battery stored energy to the load. This project investigates the optimum dimensioning of a battery energy storage in a grid connected Photovoltaic system, for the customers who purchase and sell the electricity to the utility grid. The aim was to provide an optimal method that helps electricity customers equipped with PV systems, in making decisions to install economically sized battery energy storage. Th…

Comparative environmental analysis of soil sampling methods in precision agriculture for lime application in Paraná State, Brazil

2020

Precision agriculture (PA) provides techniques that favour the localized application of inputs allowing their rational use. This makes the PA a potential indicator of reduced operational costs, input volume, and environmental impacts. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the environmental effects of three different sampling methods used in PA for the lime application. The first sampling method evaluated was the grid sampling (GS). It was performed at a density of one sample per hectare in a 100×100 m georeferenced grid. The second method was the directed sampling, that was performed after defining the management zones by soil apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) using a…

On FE-grid relocation in solving unilateral boundary value problems by FEM

1992

We consider FE-grid optimization in elliptic unilateral boundary value problems. The criterion used in grid optimization is the total potential energy of the system. It is shown that minimization of this cost functional means a decrease of the discretization error or a better approximation of the unilateral boundary conditions, Design sensitivity analysis is given with respect to the movement of nodal points. Numerical results for the Dirichlet-Signorini problem for the Laplace equation and the plane elasticity problem with unilateral boundary conditions are given. In plane elasticity we consider problems with and without friction. peerReviewed

Power dispatching of active generators using droop control in grid connected micro-grid

2014

Masteroppgave i fornybar energi ENE 500 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Renewable energy promises a green energy future for the world. However, many technical problems still have to be solved. Almost all renewable energy sources require power electronic converters for power processing and therefore inverter control systems and power dispatching strategies are significant in renewable energy applications. The existing electricity grid architecture is based on centralized power generations while most renewable power generations are distributed and connected to lower or medium voltage networks. Some of important renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power are intermittent in nature. Thi…

An optimization-based approach for solving a time-harmonic multiphysical wave problem with higher-order schemes

2013

This study considers developing numerical solution techniques for the computer simulations of time-harmonic fluid-structure interaction between acoustic and elastic waves. The focus is on the efficiency of an iterative solution method based on a controllability approach and spectral elements. We concentrate on the model, in which the acoustic waves in the fluid domain are modeled by using the velocity potential and the elastic waves in the structure domain are modeled by using displacement.Traditionally, the complex-valued time-harmonic equations are used for solving the time-harmonic problems. Instead of that, we focus on finding periodic solutions without solving the time-harmonic problem…

Game Theory with Engineering Applications

2016

Engineering systems are highly distributed collective systems—decisions, information, and objectives are distributed throughout—that have humans in the loop, and thus decisions may be influenced by socioeconomic factors. Engineering systems emphasize the potential of control and games beyond traditional applications. Game theory can be used to design incentives to obtain socially desirable behaviors on the part of the players, for example, a change in the consumption patterns on the part of the “prosumers” (producers-consumers) or better redistribution of traffic. This unique book addresses the foundations of game theory, with an emphasis on the physical intuition behind the concepts, an an…

On the discrimination of spatial intervals by the blind cave fish (Anoptichthys jordani).

1986

The performance of the blind cave fish in discriminating spatial intervals was investigated. The fish had to discriminate between pairs of grids consisting of equidistant vertical bars. The intervals between the bars on the grid to be chosen were kept constant while the intervals between the bars on the other grid were altered in steps so as to become gradually closer to the interval between the bars on the grid to be chosen. It was found that the fish were still able to discriminate between the two grids when the difference between the bar intervals amounted to at least 1.5 mm. In interpreting the results it was concluded that the phase information in the stimulus on the skin of the fish m…
