Effects of triplet Higgs bosons in long baseline neutrino experiments

2018

The triplet scalars $(\Delta=\Delta^{++},\Delta^{+},\Delta^{0})$, utilized in the so-called Type-II seesaw model to explain the lightness of neutrinos, would generate nonstandard interactions (NSI) for neutrino propagating in matter. We investigate the prospects to probe these interactions in long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. We analyze the upper bounds that the proposed DUNE experiment might set on the nonstandard parameters and numerically derive upper bounds, as function of the lightest neutrino mass, on the ratio the mass $M_\Delta$ of the triplet scalars and strength $|\lambda_\phi|$ of the coupling $\phi\phi\Delta$ of the triplet $\Delta$ and conventional Higgs doublet $…

Search for supersymmetry in events with four or more leptons in s=13  TeV pp collisions with ATLAS

2018

Results from a search for supersymmetry in events with four or more charged leptons (electrons, muons and taus) are presented. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to 36.1 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider at s=13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Four-lepton signal regions with up to two hadronically decaying taus are designed to target a range of supersymmetric scenarios that can be either enriched in or depleted of events involving the production and decay of a Z boson. Data yields are consistent with Standard Model expectations and results are used to set upper limits on the event yields from processes beyond the Standard Model. Exclu…

Coulomb excitation of exotic nuclei at the R3B-LAND setup

2012

Exotic Ni isotopes have been measured at the R3B-LAND setup at GSI in Darmstadt, using Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics at beam energies around 500 MeV/u. As the experimental setup allows kinematically complete measurements, the excitation energy was reconstructed using the invariant mass method. The GDR and additional low-lying strength have been observed in 68Ni, the latter exhausting 4.1(1.9)% of the E1 energy-weighted sum rule. Also, the branching ratio for the non-statistical decay of the excited 68Ni nuclei was measured and amounts to 24(4)%.

Implications of an axino LSP for naturalness

2014

Both the naturalness of the electroweak symmetry breaking and the resolution of the strong CP problem may require a small Higgsino mass $\mu$ generated by a realization of the DFSZ axion model. Assuming the axino is the lightest supersymmetric particle, we study its implications on $\mu$ and the axion scale. Copiously produced light Higgsinos at collider (effectively only neutral NLSP pairs) eventually decay to axinos leaving prompt multi-leptons or displaced vertices which are being looked for at the LHC. We use latest LHC7+8 results to derive current limits on $\mu$ and the axion scale. Various Higgsino-axino phenomenology is illustrated by comparing with a standard case without lightest …

LHC and dark matter phenomenology of the NUGHM

2014

We present a Bayesian analysis of the NUGHM, a supersymmetric scenario with non-universal gaugino masses and Higgs masses, including all the relevant experimental observables and dark matter constraints. The main merit of the NUGHM is that it essentially includes all the possibilities for dark matter (DM) candidates within the MSSM, since the neutralino and chargino spectrum -and composition- are as free as they can be in the general MSSM. We identify the most probable regions in the NUHGM parameter space, and study the associated phenomenology at the LHC and the prospects for DM direct detection. Requiring that the neutralino makes all of the DM in the Universe, we identify two preferred r…

The Minimal Supersymmetric Model without a mu term

2002

We propose a supersymmetric extension of the standard model which is a realistic alternative to the MSSM, and which has several advantages. No ``mu'' supersymmetric Higgs/Higgsino mass parameter is needed for sufficiently heavy charginos. An approximate U(1) R symmetry naturally guarantees that tan beta is large, explaining the top/bottom quark mass hierarchy. This symmetry also suppresses supersymmetric contributions to anomalous magnetic moments, b to s gamma, and proton decay, and these processes place no lower bounds on superpartner masses, even at large tan beta. The soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters can easily be obtained from either gauge or Planck scale mediation, without …

Search for pair production of Higgsinos in final states with at least three b -tagged jets in s=13  TeV pp collisions using the ATLAS detector

2018

A search for pair production of the supersymmetric partners of the Higgs boson (higgsinos H˜) in gauge-mediated scenarios is reported. Each higgsino is assumed to decay to a Higgs boson and a gravitino. Two complementary analyses, targeting high- and low-mass signals, are performed to maximize sensitivity. The two analyses utilize LHC pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy s=13  TeV, the former with an integrated luminosity of 36.1  fb-1 and the latter with 24.3  fb-1, collected with the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. The search is performed in events containing missing transverse momentum and several energetic jets, at least three of which must be identified as b-quark jets. No sig…

Perturbative unitarity constraints on the NMSSM Higgs Sector

2018

Abstract We place perturbative unitarity constraints on both the dimensionful and dimensionless parameters in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) Higgs Sector. These constraints, plus the requirement that the singlino and/or Higgsino constitutes at least part of the observed dark matter relic abundance, generate upper bounds on the Higgs, neutralino and chargino mass spectrum. Requiring higher-order corrections to be no more than 41% of the tree-level value, we obtain an upper bound of 20 TeV for the heavy Higgses and 12 TeV for the charginos and neutralinos outside defined fine-tuned regions. If the corrections are no more than 20% of the tree-level value, the bounds …

Supersymmetric electroweak baryogenesis

1999

We calculate the baryon asymmetry generated at the electroweak phase transition in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, using a new method to compute the CP-violating asymmetry in the Higgsino flux reflected into the unbroken phase. The method is based on a Higgs insertion expansion. We find that the CP asymmetry at leading order is proportional to the change in $\tan \beta$ in the bubble wall, which is at most of order $10^{-2}$, while at next-to-leading order this suppression factor disappears. This result may enhance the final baryon asymmetry generated during the electroweak phase transition for small $\Delta \beta (< 10^{-3}$).
