Did Pindar’s scheme really exist?

Abstract: A Greek construction in which the verb is in the 3rd sg. form, while the subject is in the 3rd pl. and, in most cases, in post–verbal position, is called Pindar’s scheme inasmuch as it occurs most frequently in the poems of this author. Various explanations have been provided for this construction and it has also been interpreted as an error. The paper is an attempt at an overall syntactic explanation of the available data.

On Conditioning Operators

The construction of conditional events (so-called measure-free conditioning) has a long history and is one of the fundamental problems in non-deterministic system theory (cf. [6]). In particular, the iteration of measure-free conditioning is still an open problem. The present paper tries to make a contribution to this question. In particular, we give an axiomatic introduction of conditioning operators which act as binary operations on the universe of events. The corresponding axiom system of this type of operators focus special attention on the intuitive understanding that the event ‘α given β’ is somewhere in “between” ‘α and β’ and ‘β implies α’. En este territorio, a diferencia de otros ámbitos, los jardines unifamiliares se asocian a las urbanizaciones que se han ido configurando desde 1960 a raíz de la expansión del denominado turismo residencial. Los objetivos de esta investigación son identificar las principales características de los jardines unifamiliares y, a partir de ellas, estimar sus necesidades hídricas y determinar el volumen de agua doméstico consumido por el jardín en el hogar. Plasma activated water (PAW) generated from pinhole plasma jet using gas mixtures of argon (Ar) and 2% oxygen (O2) was evaluated for pesticide degradation and microorganism decontamination (i.e., Escherichia coli and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) in chili (Capsicum annuum L.). A flow rate of 10 L/min produced the highest concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at 369 mg/L. Results showed that PAW treatment for 30 min and 60 min effectively degrades carbendazim and chlorpyrifos by about 57% and 54% in solution, respectively. In chili, carbendazim and chlorpyrifos were also decreased, to a major extent, by 80% and 65% after PAW treatment for 30 min and 60 min, respectively. E. coli popula…

Tailored tellurite-glasses possess excellent thermo-viscous ability and linear/nonlinear optical properties. Here, bringing together the merits of these materials with fiber optic technology, we report on the first tellurite-based core-clad dual-electrode composite fiber made by direct, homothetic preform-to-fiber thermal co-drawing. The rheological and optical properties of the selected glasses allow both to regulate the metallic melting flow and to manage the refractive index core/clad waveguide profile.
