Experimental investigation of low-frequency pulsed Lorentz force influence on the motion of Galinstan melt

Abstract The paper presents the results of the numerical and physical experiments, aimed at assessing the influence of pulsed force of electromagnetic field on the melt motion and the fluid velocities. The experiment was performed on the eutectic alloy Galinstan in the cylindrical volume, where an ultrasonic Doppler velocimeter was employed for velocity measurements under conditions of pulsed and steady EM field application. A numerical simulation of the melt flow, forced by the steady EM force, involved a 2D axisymmetric model. The k-e turbulence model was used to obtain the information about the melt velocities. Permanent magnet dipole stirrer for aluminium furnaces

Use of permanent magnet systems for metallurgical applications have been proposed before. We have continued development of such systems by investigation use of single magnetic dipole which is realized as permanent magnet cylinder. Magnet is magnetized orthogonal to its axis and has been mounted to the side of the liquid metal reservoir. System first was modelled using small scale experiment with galinstan melt. Velocity distributions and flow patterns in reservoir using Ultrasound Doppler Anemometer were acquired and will be presented here. International audience; Bubble detection in liquid metal is an important issue for various technological applications. For instance, in the framework of Sodium Fast Reactors design, the presence of gas in the sodium flow of the primary and secondary loops is an issue of crucial importance for safety and reliability. Here, the two main gas measurement methods in sodium are ultrasonic testing and eddy-current testing; we investigate the second method in our study. Abstract Refining the metallic melts and removal of contaminants from the free surface may be sped up by increasing the surface area of mass exchange interface. It is relevant to both the case of volatile impurity evaporation in a vacuum as well as the case of chemical reactions when the continuous crust of reaction products should be interrupted. Previously proposed low-frequency AC magnetic field excitation of intense surface waves is limited by skin-effect. Elektromagnētiski ierosinātu virsmas viļņu eksperiments

Darbā eksperimentāli tiek pētīta virsmas viļņu elektromagnētiska ierosināšana šķidrā metālā (GaInSn eitektikā), izmantojot Bitera spoli, kas rada mainīgu magnētisko lauku. Tiek pētīts, kā mainīgā magnētiskā lauka stiprums ietekmē veidojošos virsmas viļņus, kā šie viļņi izmainās, ja klāt mainīgajam laukam pievieno spēcīgu, pastāvīgu magnētisko lauku, kura virziens sakrīt ar mainīgā magnētiskā lauka virzienu. Lai raksturotu iegūtos virsmas viļņus, ar dažādām metodēm noteikts to viļņu garums, frekvence, amplitūda, kā arī plūsma metāla tilpumā. Eksperimentālie rezultāti demonstrē iespēju šķidrā metālā ierosināt virsmas viļņus, izmantojot bezkontakta – elektromagnētisku pieeju.

Izmantojot solenoīdu, kurā plūst maiņstrāva, un pastāvīgo magnētu sistēmu, šķidrā metālā ir iespējams izveidot virsmas viļņus ar elektromagnētisko mijiedarbību. Virsmas viļņu ierosināšana palielina šķidrā metāla virsmas laukumu, kā arī veicina tā tilpuma maisīšanos. Šādai mijiedarbībai varētu atrasties pielietojums industrijā, piemēram, silīcija energoefektīva attīrīšana no nevēlamiem piemaisījumiem.
