Vicent Garcia, poeta europeu
2012
The Program of Health Volunteer Promoters for OlderAdults: The Well-Being of the Volunteers at Leisure Time
2018
The study of ageing processes has gained increased attention in recent years, partly due to the growth of this population group (United Nations, World population prospects: The 2015 revision. New York: United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. https://esa.un.org/unpd/wpp/publications/files/key_findings_wpp_2015.pdf. Accessed 25 Sep 2016, 2015). Research into this area has focused on older adult well-being (Au et al, Clinical Gerontologist 38:203–210, 2015) and the identification of factors having an influence on well-being at this stage of the life cycle (Carstensen, Current Directions in Psychological Science 4:151–156, 1995). These lines of research have emphasized the con…
2021
Garcia-Alcalde (1972) proposed the new genus Xana (type species Xana bubo Garcia-Alcalde, 1972) for a terebratulid brachiopod included in the superfamily Stringocephalacea from the Lower Devonian of the Cantabrian Mountains (Northwestern Spain). In an email message sent on April 3, 2018, the entomologist Dr. Eduardo I. Faundez, from the Patagonia Institute, Magallanes University, Chile, warned the author that Xana was a name previously used by Kurdjumov (1917) for a hymenopteran genus. Xana Garcia-Alcalde, 1972 would be so a later homonym of Xana Kurdjumov, 1917. In accordance with articles 52.3, 52.4, 53.2, 60.3 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) (2000), it is prop…

García & Cernadas (eds.), Reginae Iberia: El Poder Regio Femenino en Los Reinos Medievales Peninsulares (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, 2015)
2017
The volume "Reginae Iberia" is a compilation of some of the papers presented at the International Congress on Queens and Infantas in Medieval Iberian Kingdoms, held in Santiago de Compostela from the 21 st to 23 rd May 2014. The editors of this volume, Miguel Garcia and Silvia Cernadas, selected a total of 12 articles, which despite focussing on very different topics, all served to emphasise a shared central idea. With these articles, the editors aimed to present a range of new and complementary readings on the Iberian monarchy, whilst highlighting the leading role of women at the heart of these houses and challenging the perception that they served purely for decorative or reproductive pur…
THE OLIGARCH AND THE PAINTBRUSHES: A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF ANDREU GARCIA, PRIEST = EL OLIGARCA Y LOS PINCELES: BREVE SEMBLANZA DEL PRESBÍTERO ANDREU…
2014
The documents regarding the Valencian priest Andreu Garcia († November 1452) show a quite interesting character. Garcia’s family belonged to local oligarchy. Moreover, he had a substantial income related with the Cathedral. He had contact, too, with Carthusians, Observant Friars and probably with Beghards (the books of his library suggest this last idea). Garcia took part, as an intermediary or as a sponsor, in many artistic orders that involved the best workers and the best customers of the city. Besides, he had a strong relationship with painters like Simó Llobregat, Jaume Mateu, Gonçal Sarrià and Joan Reixac. The priest could also have practiced painting, judging by the belongings that w…
2020
In this paper the functions of the Spanish discourse marker ?no? are analysed from a pragmatic and an interactive perspective. Specifically, we explore the values of ?no? taking the pragmatic phenomena of mitigation and boosting, as well as the notion of affiliation as described in conversation analysis. The previous literature devoted to the study of this linguistic form has consistently identified its uses as a confirmation request or a phatic device (Fuentes, 1990, 2009; Santos Rio, 2003; Garcia Vizcaino, 2005; Montanez, 2008, 2015; Rodriguez Munoz, 2009; Moccero, 2010; Santana, 2017). This work, however, analyses how the mitigating uses interact and share features with neighbouring cate…
Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Twentieth-century Spanish Poetry
2015
This article investigates the presence of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in the poetic production of a selection of twentieth-century Spanish poets, among them, Miguel de Unamuno, Antonio and Manuel Machado, Juan Ramon Jimenez, Federico Garcia Lorca, Leon Felipe, Vicente Aleixandre, Jose Hierro, Blas de Otero, Juan Eduardo Cirlot, Clara Janes and Maria Victoria Atencia. It will be seen how these different poets appropriate Hamlet in their own manner, focusing on dissimilar episodes, concepts and characters to elaborate on their personal reflections on life and death, love, poetry and human nature. Such varied poetic reinterpretations of Shakespeare’s tragedy illustrate not only the multiple poetic po…
