Pneumonia hospitalizations of children aged <2 years in Poland before (2013-2016) and after (2017-2018) universal mass vaccination with 10-valent pne…
2022
As infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important cause of pneumonia in children, the World Health Organization recommends childhood pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs). In January 2017, PCV universal mass vaccination (UMV) was introduced in Poland for children aged <2 years. The objective of this study was to estimate and describe the trends in the incidences of various types of pneumonia hospitalizations in Poland before (2013–2016) and after (2017–2018) introduction of the UMV program. The study was conducted at the regional hospitals of Opole and Bialystok and included all hospitalized children aged <2 years with a primary or secondary diagnosis of pneumonia in their electro…
Quinol sulphate, a new conjugate of phenol in goldfish.
1983
1. Metabolism of phenol in goldfish yielded the known phenyl conjugates in fish--phenyl sulphate and phenyl glucuronide. Additionally, quinol sulphate, a new conjugate of phenol in fish, was detected.

Stereoselective Synthesis of trans-4,5-Disubstituted Oxazolidin-2-ones by Intramolecular Conjugate Addition of N-p-Toluenesulfonyl Carbamates.
2003
p-Toluenesulfonyl carbamates (2a-d) were prepared starting from allylic alcohols (3), in which the double bond is conjugated with an electron withdrawing group. In the presence of a catalytic amount of DBU, an intramolecular cyclisation occurred, leading to trans-4,5-disubstituted oxazolidin-2-ones (1a-d) with total stereoselection, which can be precursors of syn-4-hydroxy-3-amino acids.
Novel cleavable cell-penetrating peptide-drug conjugates: synthesis and characterization
2014
We report the first drug conjugate with a negatively charged amphipathic cell-penetrating peptide. Furthermore, we compare two different doxorubicin cell-penetrating peptide conjugates, which are both unique in their properties, due to their net charge at physiological pH, namely the positively charged octaarginine and the negatively charged proline-rich amphipathic peptide. These conjugates were prepared exploiting a novel heterobifunctional crosslinker to join the N-terminal cysteine residue of the peptides with the aliphatic ketone of doxorubicin. This small linker contains an activated thiol as well as aminooxy functionality, capable of generating a stable oxime bond with the C-13 carbo…
The impact of mandatory vaccination law in Italy on mmr coverage rates in two of the largest italian regions (Emilia-romagna and sicily): An effectiv…
2020
Background: Vaccine hesitancy has increased worldwide, leading to reduction in vaccination coverage rates. In particular, reduction in the coverage for the trivalent Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine has led to an increase of measles cases. The aim of this study is to analyze the coverage rates for the MMR vaccine in the Emilia-Romagna Region (RER) and Sicily Region (SR) between 2009 and 2018, and to correlate any significant change to index events which could have modified the trend of vaccination rates. Methods: Official aggregate data on vaccination coverage at 24 months provided by the RER and the SR were analyzed through trend analysis and related to important index events. Results: The tw…
Impact of π-conjugation configurations on the photovoltaic performance of the quinoxaline-based organic dyes
2017
Abstract Three novel quinoxaline-based donor-π-acceptor type organic dyes were synthesized and explored as sensitizers in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The impacts of various π-conjugation configurations which contain different quinoxaline derivatives on the absorption properties, electrochemical properties and photovoltaic performances, as well as theoretical calculations have been investigated systematically. The photovoltaic performances of these dyes were found to be highly relevant to the π-conjugated configurations. In particular, the DSSC based on the dye with 2,3-dioctylquinoxaline as the spacer exhibited the highest efficiency of 8.20% with a short-circuit photocurrent densit…
Time of flight measurements based on FPGA using a breast dedicated PET
2014
In this work the implementation of a Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) using a Nutt delay line FPGA-based and applied on a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) device is going to be presented in order to check the system’s suitability for Time of Flight (TOF) measurements. In recent years, FPGAs have shown great advantages for precise time measurements in PET. The architecture employed for these measurements is described in detail. The system developed was tested on a dedicated breast PET prototype, composed of LYSO crystals and Positive Sensitive Photomultipliers (PSPMTs). Two distinct experiments were carried out for this purpose. In the first test, system linearity was evaluated in order to …

Performance of the upgraded PreProcessor of the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger
2020
The PreProcessor of the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger prepares the analogue trigger signals sent from the ATLAS calorimeters by digitising, synchronising, and calibrating them to reconstruct transverse energy deposits, which are then used in further processing to identify event features. During the first long shutdown of the LHC from 2013 to 2014, the central components of the PreProcessor, the Multichip Modules, were replaced by upgraded versions that feature modern ADC and FPGA technology to ensure optimal performance in the high pile-up environment of LHC Run 2. This paper describes the features of the newMultichip Modules along with the improvements to the signal processing achieved.
