φ meson mass and decay width in nuclear matter

The $\phi$ meson spectrum, which in vacuum is dominated by its coupling to the $\bar{K} K$ system, is modified in nuclear matter. Following a model based on chiral SU(3) dynamics we calculate the $\phi$ meson selfenergy in nuclear matter considering the $K$ and $\bar{K}$ in-medium properties. For the latter we use the results of previous calculations which account for $S-$ and $P-$wave kaon-nucleon interactions based on the lowest order meson-baryon chiral effective Lagrangian, and this leads to a dressing of the kaon propagators in the medium. In addition, a set of vertex corrections is evaluated to fulfill gauge invariance, which involves contact couplings of the $\phi$ meson to $S-$wave …

The in-medium dynamics of heavy particles are governed by transport coefficients. The heavy quark momentum diffusion coefficient, $\ensuremath{\kappa}$, is an object of special interest in the literature, but one which has proven notoriously difficult to estimate, despite the fact that it has been computed by weak-coupling methods at next-to-leading order accuracy, and by lattice simulations of the pure SU(3) gauge theory. Another coefficient, $\ensuremath{\gamma}$, has been recently identified. It can be understood as the dispersive counterpart of $\ensuremath{\kappa}$. Little is known about $\ensuremath{\gamma}$. Sequential deconfinement in 3d N=2 gauge theories

We consider 3d N = 2 gauge theories with fundamental matter plus a single field in a rank-2 representation. Using iteratively a process of "deconfinement" of the rank-2 field, we produce a sequence of Seiberg-dual quiver theories. We detail this process in two examples with zero superpotential: Usp(2N) gauge theory with an antisymmetric field and U(N) gauge theory with an adjoint field. The fully deconfined dual quiver has N nodes, and can be interpreted as an Aharony dual of theories with rank-2 matter. All chiral ring generators of the original theory are mapped into gauge singlet fields of the fully deconfined quiver dual.
"Dynamical" interactions and gauge invariance

Appreciating the classical understanding of the elementary particle the "dynamical" Poincare algebra is developed. It is shown that the "dynamical" Poincare algebra and the equations of motion of particles with arbitrary spin are gauge invariant and that gauge invariance and relativistic invariance stand on equal footings. A "dynamical" non-minimal interaction is constructed explicitly and the Rarita-Schwinger equation is considered in the framework of this "dynamical" interaction.
The electromagnetic and Proca fields revisited: A unified quantization

Quantizing the electromagnetic field with a group formalism faces the difficulty of how to turn the traditional gauge transformation of the vector potential, Aμ(x) → Aμ(x) + ∂μφ(x), into a group law. In this paper, it is shown that the problem can be solved by looking at gauge transformations in a slightly different manner which, in addition, does not require introducing any BRST-like parameter. This gauge transformation does not appear explicitly in the group law of the symmetry but rather as the trajectories associated with generalized equations of motion generated by vector fields with null Noether invariants. Abstract We give an infinite-dimensional Lie group from which a group approach to quantization (GAQ) derives a Gupta-Bleuler-like quantization for the electromagnetic field. The incorporation into the group law of the gauge transformation properties of Aμ(x), Aμ(x) → Aμ(x) + ∂μφ, requires a non-conventional generator which is related to the BRST charge.
Large-photon-number limit and the essential singularity in finite quantum electrodynamics

It is shown that the essential singularity in finite quantum electrodynamics can be located by considering only those diagrams with a large number of photons exchanged in the single-fermion loop, without photons emitted and absorbed on a fermion line. (AIP)
B-0-(B)over-bar(0) mixing and decay constants with the non-perturbatively improved action

Several quantities relevant to phenomenological studies of B-0-(B) over bar (0) mixing are computed on the lattice. Our main results are f(Bd) root(B) over cap (Bd) = 206(28) (14)(-00)(+31) MeV, xi = f(Bd) root(B) over capB(x)/f(Bd) root(B) over cap (Bd) = 1.16(7). We also obtain the related quantities f(Bs) root(B) over cap (Bs) - 237(18) (10)(-00)(+34) MeV, f(Bd) = 174(22)(-0-0-00)(+7+5+26) MeV, f(Bs) = 204(15)(-0-0-00)(+7+4+31) MeV, f(Bs)/f(Bd) = 1.17(4)(-1)(+0), f(Bd)/f(Ds) = 0.74(5). After combining our results with the experimental world average Deltam(d)((exp)), we predict Deltam(s) = 15.8(2.1)(3.3) ps(-1). Quasi-free electron scattering in a relativistic model of the nucleus

Longitudinal and transverse response functions of quasi-free electron scattering have been calculated in mean field approximation for a relativisticσ-ω model, including non-linearities in theσ-field. As a consequence of the completely consistent and fully relativistic treatment of wave functions and current operators, gauge invariance is perfectly satisfied throughout the calculation. The results indicate that models with the same nuclear bulk properties lead to similar response functions within 10%. Our results agree with the experimental data for12C and238U, but cannot describe the longitudinal response in the Ca-Fe region. Predictions for208Pb are given for comparison with future experim…
Geometric inequivalence of metric and Palatini formulations of General Relativity

Projective invariance is a symmetry of the Palatini version of General Relativity which is not present in the metric formulation. The fact that the Riemann tensor changes nontrivially under projective transformations implies that, unlike in the usual metric approach, in the Palatini formulation this tensor is subject to a gauge freedom, which allows some ambiguities even in its scalar contractions. In this sense, we show that for the Schwarzschild solution there exists a projective gauge in which the (affine) Kretschmann scalar, K≡R R , can be set to vanish everywhere.
