Hybrid QM/MM Molecular Dynamics with AMOEBA Polarizable Embedding

International audience; We present the implementation of a Born-Oppenheimer (BO) hybrid Quantum Mechan-ics/Molecular Mechanics (QM/MM) Molecular Dynamics (MD) strategy using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and the polarizable AMOEBA force field. This approach couples the Gaussian and Tinker suite of programs through a variational formalism allowing for a full self-consistent relaxation of both the AMOEBA induced dipoles and the DFT electronic density at each MD step. A new mathematical function for describing electrophoretic peaks.

A new model is proposed for characterizing skewed electrophoretic peaks, which is a combination of leading and trailing edge functions, empirically modified to get a rapid recovery of the baseline. The peak model is a sum of square roots and is called thereby "combined square roots (CSR) model". The flexibility of the model was checked on theoretical and experimental peaks with asymmetries in the range of 0-10 (expressed as the ratio of the distance between the center and the trailing edge, and the center and the leading edge of the chromatographic peak, measured at 10% of peak height). The Effect of Corrective Feedback on Performance in Basic Cognitive Tasks: An Analysis of RT Components

[EN] The current work examines the effect of trial-by-trial feedback about correct and error responding on performance in two basic cognitive tasks: a classic Stroop task (n = 40) and a color-word matching task (n = 30). Standard measures of both RT and accuracy were examined in addition to measures obtained from fitting the ex-Gaussian distributional model to the correct RTs. For both tasks, RTs were faster in blocks of trials with feedback than in blocks without feedback, but this difference was not significant. Atmospheric radiative transfer models (RTMs) simulate the light propagation in the Earth's atmosphere. With the evolution of RTMs, their increase in complexity makes them impractical in routine processing such as atmospheric correction. To overcome their computational burden, standard practice is to interpolate a multidimensional lookup table (LUT) of prestored simulations. Fatigue life under non-Gaussian random loading from various models

Fatigue test results on the 10HNAP steel under constant amplitude and random loading with non-Gaussian probability distribution function, zero mean value and wide-band frequency spectrum have been used to compare the life time estimation of the models proposed by Bannantine, Fatemi–Socie, Socie, Wang–Brown, Morel and Łagoda–Macha. A novel frequency domain method for predicting fatigue crack growth under wide band random loading

This work deals with the evaluation of the fatigue crack growth rate of structural components subjected to uniaxial Gaussian stationary wide band random loading. In detail, a new frequency domain method that allows the user to estimate the expected crack growth rate directly from the PSD data is proposed. Non-Gaussian Distribution for Var Calculation: an Assessment for the Italian Market

Abstract In this paper we compare different approaches to computing VaR (Value-at-Risk) for heavy tailed return series. Using data from the Italian market, we show that almost all the return series present statistically significant skewness and kurtosis. We implement (i) the stable models proposed by Rachev et al . (2000), (ii) an alternative to the Gaussian distributions based on a Generalized Error Distribution and (iii) a non-parametric model proposed by Li (1999). All the models are then submitted to backtest on out-of-sample data in order to assess their forecasting power.
