Leona Gilbertin väitöskirjatyö antaa uutta tietoa parvovirusten pinnanmuokkauksesta ja hyödyllisyydestä virologian, geeniterapian ja biolääketieteen sovelluksissa. Parvovirukset ovat pieniä, yksisäikeistä DNA:ta sisältäviä eläinviruksia, jotka kykenevät infektoimaan isäntänsä soluja. Ihmisillä ne aiheuttavat ihottumaa sekä nivelkipuja. In an effort to produce more environmentally friendly materials, renewable and biodegradable biopolymers have been investigated as coating materials. Edible films obtained from i-carrageenan and sodium alginates have good mechanical characteristics, are emulsion stabilizers, and decrease oxygen transfer. The addition of lipids to form emulsified films decreases the water vapour transfer and could be used to encapsulate active substances or aroma compounds. Abstract Incivility and hateful language in user comments are met with growing concern among politicians, the general public, and scholars. There are fears that such comments may decrease social cohesion and ultimately result in less prosocial behavior among citizens. We investigate whether hate, or even civil negativity in user comments alone, inhibit actual prosocial behavior through recipients’ explicit and implicit attitudes. In an online experiment, 253 participants read user comments (neutral, civil-negative, hateful) about refugees and received five Euros which they could donate for a refugee aid organization or keep for themselves. STAT5b is a key effector of NRG-1/ERBB4-mediated myocardial growth

The growth factor Neuregulin-1 (NRG-1) regulates myocardial growth and is currently under clinical investigation as a treatment for heart failure. Here, we demonstrate in several in vitro and in vivo models that STAT5b mediates NRG-1/EBBB4-stimulated cardiomyocyte growth. Genetic and chemical disruption of the NRG-1/ERBB4 pathway reduces STAT5b activation and transcription of STAT5b target genes Igf1, Myc, and Cdkn1a in murine cardiomyocytes. Loss of Stat5b also ablates NRG-1-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Two isostructural trans-[MI2(CNXyl)2]·I2 (M = Pd or Pt; CNXyl = 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide) metallopolymeric cocrystals containing uncommon bifurcated iodine···(metal–iodide) contact were obtained. In addition to classical halogen bonding, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a rare type of metal-involved stabilizing contact in both cocrystals. The nature of the noncovalent contact was studied computationally (via DFT, electrostatic surface potential, electron localization function, quantum theory of atoms in molecules, and noncovalent interactions plot methods). However, in contrast to expectations, it is often found that adding low concentrations of xanthan gum or guar gum to milk provokes phase separations of unclear physical origin. Halogen bond preferences of thiocyanate ligand coordinated to Ru(II) via sulphur atom

Halogen bonding between [Ru(bpy)(CO)2(S-SCN)2] (bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine), I2 was studied by co-crystallising the metal compound and diiodine from dichloromethane. The only observed crystalline product was found to be [Ru(bpy)(CO)2(S-SCN)2]⋅I2 with only one NCS⋅⋅⋅I2 halogen bond between I2 and the metal coordinated S atom of one of the thiocyanate ligand. The dangling nitrogen atoms were not involved in halogen bonding. However, computational analysis suggests that there are no major energetic differences between the NCS⋅⋅⋅I2 and SCN⋅⋅⋅I2 bonding modes.
