Mathematics Learning through Arts and Collaborative Problem-Solving : The Princess and the Diamond-Problem

In this paper, we examine a mathematics education course which focused on collaborative mathematical problem solving in art topics. The students of the course were Finnish primary school pre-service teachers. During the course students investigated tessellations, reflected on their experiences and designed workshops for pupils. The course meetings were video recorded. Students’ work contained elements of mathematical problem solving and gave them experiences of working collaboratively. Teacher Guidance in Mathematical Problem-Solving Lessons : Insights from Two Professional Development Programs

When implementing a problem-solving lesson, the teacher needs to provide students appropriate guidance during problem solving. This demanding task requires understanding students’ work in progress and giving them necessary help without constraining their thinking. In this article, we share insights from two professional development programs on how teachers guided students’ problem solving and how they reflected on these instances. One of the programs included Finnish pre-service teachers, while the other program included US in-service teachers. It is only natural to think that his view has nothing in common with the kind of individualistic outlook that dominates our legal and political thinking, and that I myself have tried to defend. I try to show why certain insights of Hegel are potentially important even for individualistic legal and political theories. In this sense, I will argue, that the starting point of radical education should be in the destruction of these walls of belief that people build around themselves in order to feel safe. In this connection I will talk about ‘gentle shattering of identities’ as a problem and a method of radical education. A monoclonal antibody, designated TeM 106, that recognizes an intrinsic protein from the vacuole membrane (tonoplast) of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) is described. Mice were immunized with a tonoplast fraction that had been purified from differentiating meristematic cells from the cauliflower head. Hybridomas were generated and screened by means of Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assays for differential reactivity to tonoplast over non-related proteins (bovine serum albumin). A monoclonal antibody to the rat liver membrane fatty acid binding protein (MFABP) was prepared by immunizing mice with purified MFABP isolated from solubilized rat liver plasma membrane proteins by oleate-agarose affinity chromatography technique. The monoclonal antibody K15/6 identified a single 40 kDa protein in rat liver plasma membranes with pI values of 8.5, 8.8 and 9.0, which is identical to the authentic MFABP, but clearly distinct from rat mitochondrial GOT. The antibody K15/6 selectively inhibited cellular influx as well as membrane binding of fatty acids, but not of cholesterol or vitamin E. In the present work. the preparation and characterization of hydrogels based on alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) chemically crosslinked with ethyleneglycol diglycidylether (EGDGE) containing Tolmetin sodium salt, are reported. In particular, these samples have been prepared both as water swellable microparticles and as gels at two different crosslinking degrees. Benzodiazepines: specific competitors for the binding of L-tryptophan to human serum albumin.

By means of the gel filtration technique, the effect of nine benzo-diazepine derivates on the binding of l-tryptophan to human serum albumin was investigated. Using equimolar tryptophan and benzodiazepine concentrations, all benzodiazepines with binding constants higher than 104 (M−1), displace l-tryptophan from its binding site to a high degree. The mechanism of the displacement was characterized as a competition for a common binding site. Some of the benzodiazepines displace l-tryptophan to a greater extent than salicylic acid.
