2018
One can notice a growing interest regarding the discovery and the highlighting of the forms of cultural resistance in the 1950-1989 period, especially the highlighting of the importance and significations of the post-war Romanian exile, in the communist period, based on the conservation and development of the interior existence together with keeping the modernist reaction regarding the autonomy of the aesthetics to its political insubordination. The Romanian Library of Freiburg constitutes an essential starting point in highlighting the types of cultural resistance of the exile. The Romanian cultural exile begun at the start of the 50s in Romania, when the persecutions of the intellectual e…
Intrepid or Invisible? Female Characters in Catalan Children's and Young Adult Literature
2019
This article analyses 95 children’s and young adult literature works written originally in Catalan and published between 2002 and 2006. They are representative of all age groups present in this genre. This analysis focuses on the presence or absence of female characters, and on their treatment and reception, both in terms of prominence and the transmission of stereotypes. The results of this review show a dichotomy between the scarcity of female protagonists and their extreme audacity.
A la nación por la clase. La campaña electoral socialista de noviembre de 1933
2017
The article deals with electoral campaign carried…
"No matter how old I am, I don’t like what my stomach looks like." Lifespan perspective on the changes in self-assessment of attractiveness and life …
2020
The study aimed to examine the association between self-assessment of attractiveness and life satisfaction in women, where age was a potential moderator of this relationship. A cross-sectional study of 360 women aged 18 to 89 was performed. Participants assessed their overall attractiveness, the attractiveness of their individual body parts, and their life satisfaction. The relationship between the assessment of attractiveness of particular body parts and life satisfaction depended on age. The results indicate that not only overall self-attractiveness, but also the perceived attractiveness of particular body parts (different in each distinguished age group: 18-25, 30-45 and 60+) can be cons…
Healing Grief: A Commentary on Seneca's Consolatio ad Marciam
2023
Both our view of Seneca’s philosophical thought and our approach to the ancient consolatory genre have radically changed since the latest commentary on the Consolatio ad Marciam was written in 1981. The aim of this work is to offer a new book-length commentary on the earliest of Seneca’s extant writings, along with a revision of the Latin text and a reassessment of Seneca’s intellectual program, strategies, and context. A crucial document to penetrate Seneca’s discourse on the self in its embryonic stages, the Ad Marciam is here taken seriously as an engaging attempt to direct the persuasive power of literary models and rhetorical devices toward the fundamentally moral project of healing Ma…

Through Different Eyes. Feminine Science and Literature in Early Modern Culture
2016
The question of a dominant model of vision will be at stake in this essay, which will try to provoke other questions on the ways in which non-dominant models of vision have tried to spread out in a particularly revolutionary and dramatic period. This century is the 17th and the non-dominant model of vision is that of the female gaze. Particularly the works of three English writers – Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn, Eliza Haywood – and their commitment with the matter of gaze will be analysed.

Questioning the Canon and Re-Writing/Re-Righting the Female Colonized Subject: Mary Seacole’s Wonderful Adventures and George Bernard Shaw’s The Adve…
2021
Albeit different in terms of formal solutions and conception, Mary Seacole’s 'Wonderful Adventures' (1857) and G.B. Shaw’s 'The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God' (1932) share an oppositional aesthetics which, in both cases, helps undermine any prevailing representation of the colonial Other. Indeed, Seacole’s and Shaw’s works manipulate the trope of travel in such a way as to overcome traditional conceptions of the literary canon as well as hegemonic visions of subjectivities. In taking into consideration the innovative representation of the Black colonized woman as delineated in both works, the essay aims to show the way in which they present an anti-normative identity mo…
