Abstract The possibility of performing complex data analysis through sets of cooperating personal smart devices has recently encouraged the definition of new distributed computing paradigms. A fog-based hybrid intelligent system for energy saving in smart buildings

In recent years, the widespread diffusion of pervasive sensing devices and the increasing need for reducing energy consumption have encouraged research in the energy-aware management of smart environments. Following this direction, this paper proposes a hybrid intelligent system which exploits a fog-based architecture to achieve energy efficiency in smart buildings. Our proposal combines reactive intelligence, for quick adaptation to the ever-changing environment, and deliberative intelligence, for performing complex learning and optimization. Abstract Although several investigations of spatial reasoning and mental rotation skills have been conducted in research areas linked to STEM education, to the best of our knowledge, few of these studies have examined the relationship between spatial reasoning and computational thinking. Abstract In this paper we continue the analysis of compressible Euler equations for inelastic granular gases described by a granular equation of state due to Goldshtein and Shapiro [Goldshtein A, Shapiro M. Mechanics of collisional motion of granular materials. Part 1: General hydrodynamic equations. J Fluid Mech 1995;282:75–114], and an energy loss term accounting for inelastic collisions. A Spatial-Temporal Correlation Approach for Data Reduction in Cluster-Based Sensor Networks

International audience; In a resource-constrained Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the optimization of the sampling and the transmission rates of each individual node is a crucial issue. A high volume of redundant data transmitted through the network will result in collisions, data loss, and energy dissipation. This paper proposes a novel data reduction scheme, that exploits the spatial-temporal correlation among sensor data in order to determine the optimal sampling strategy for the deployed sensor nodes. Soft computing-based aggregation methods for human resource management

Abstract We are interested in the personnel selection problem. We have developed a flexible decision support system to help managers in their decision-making functions. This DSS simulates experts’ evaluations using ordered weighted average (OWA) aggregation operators, which assign different weights to different selection criteria. Moreover, we show an aggregation model based on efficiency analysis to put the candidates into an order.
