On languages factorizing the free monoid

A language X⊂A* is called factorizing if there exists a language Y⊂A* such that XY = A* This work was partially supported by ESPRIT-EBRA project ASMICS contact 6317 and project 40% MURST “Algoritmi, Modelli di Calcolo e Strutture Informative”. and the product is unambiguous. First we give a combinatorial characterization of factorizing languages. Asymptotics for Graded Capelli Polynomials

The finite dimensional simple superalgebras play an important role in the theory of PI-algebras in characteristic zero. The main goal of this paper is to characterize the T 2-ideal of graded identities of any such algebra by considering the growth of the corresponding supervariety. We consider the T 2-ideal Γ M+1,L+1 generated by the graded Capelli polynomials C a p M+1[Y,X] and C a p L+1[Z,X] alternanting on M+1 even variables and L+1 odd variables, respectively. Embeddings of Danielewski surfaces

A Danielewski surface is defined by a polynomial of the form P=x nz −p(y). Define also the polynomial P ′ =x nz −r(x)p(y) where r(x) is a non-constant polynomial of degree ≤n−1 and r(0)=1. We show that, when n≥2 and deg p(y)≥2, the general fibers of P and P ′ are not isomorphic as algebraic surfaces, but that the zero fibers are isomorphic. Consequently, for every non-special Danielewski surface S, there exist non-equivalent algebraic embeddings of S in ℂ3. Using different methods, we also give non-equivalent embeddings of the surfaces xz=(y d n >−1) for an infinite sequence of integers d n . On complements of 𝔉-residuals of finite groups

ABSTRACTA formation 𝔉 of finite groups has the generalized Wielandt property for residuals, or 𝔉 is a GWP-formation, if the 𝔉-residual of a group generated by two 𝔉-subnormal subgroups is the subgroup generated by their 𝔉-residuals. The main aim of the paper is to determine some sufficient conditions for a finite group to split over its 𝔉-residual.

Characters and Sylow 2-subgroups of maximal class revisited

Abstract We give two ways to distinguish from the character table of a finite group G if a Sylow 2-subgroup of G has maximal class. We also characterize finite groups with Sylow 3-subgroups of order 3 in terms of their principal 3-block.

A Dual Version of Huppert's  -  Conjecture

Huppert’s ρ-σ conjecture asserts that any finite group has some character degree that is divisible by “many” primes. In this note, we consider a dual version of this problem, and we prove that for any finite group there is some prime that divides “many” character degrees.
