Lower semicontinuity of weak supersolutions to the porous medium equation

2013

Weak supersolutions to the porous medium equation are defined by means of smooth test functions under an integral sign. We show that nonnegative weak supersolutions become lower semicontinuous after redefinition on a set of measure zero. This shows that weak supersolutions belong to a class of supersolutions defined by a comparison principle.

Adaptive rational interpolation for cell-average

Abstract In this paper, we extend the rational interpolation introduced by G. Ramponi et al. (1997, 1998, 1996, 1995) to the cell average setting. We propose a new family of non linear interpolation operator. It consists on constructing new approximations using a non linear weighted combination of polynomials of degree 1 or 2 to obtain new interpolations of degree 2 or 4 respectively. New weights are proposed and analyzed. Gibbs phenomenon is studied and some experiments are performed comparing the new methods with classical linear and non linear interpolation as Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO).

Bounds for the relative n-th nilpotency degree in compact groups

The line of investigation of the present paper goes back to a classical work of W. H. Gustafson of the 1973, in which it is described the probability that two randomly chosen group elements commute. In the same work, he gave some bounds for this kind of probability, providing information on the group structure. We have recently obtained some generalizations of his results for finite groups. Here we improve them in the context of the compact groups.

Delay-Dependent Control for Networked Control Systems with Large Delays

We consider the problems of robust stability and control for a class of networked control systems with long-time delays. Firstly, a nonlinear discrete time model with mode-dependent time delays is proposed by converting the uncertainty of time delay into the uncertainty of parameter matrices. We consider a probabilistic case where the system is switched among different subsystems, and the probability of each subsystem being active is defined as its occurrence probability. For a switched system with a known subsystem occurrence probabilities, we give a stochastic stability criterion in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Upper bounds for the tightness of the $$G_\delta $$-topology

We prove that if X is a regular space with no uncountable free sequences, then the tightness of its $$G_\delta $$ topology is at most the continuum and if X is, in addition, assumed to be Lindelof then its $$G_\delta $$ topology contains no free sequences of length larger then the continuum. We also show that, surprisingly, the higher cardinal generalization of our theorem does not hold, by constructing a regular space with no free sequences of length larger than $$\omega _1$$ , but whose $$G_\delta $$ topology can have arbitrarily large tightness.
