What seems to be the problem?—A study of connections between national contexts and regional e-health strategies
2015
Abstract Motivation Different e-health strategies may produce different long-term results, so it is of general interest to look into strategies behind e-health approaches, and what factors that influence strategy-formation. Problem statement Previous studies into process improvements in the e-health area has suggested that approaches and strategies are very dependent on national contexts. This study explores this issue, by sampling two national regions in Europe, the St. Gallen region and canton in Switzerland, and the Agder region comprised of the two Agder-counties, in Norway. The research questions revolve around the extent to which the context influences e-health innovation in two diffe…
Genetic Diversity of Mute Swan Population of the Riga Urban Area
2015
Abstract Mute swan Cygnus olor is the most abundant breeding swan species in Rīga and Latvia. Since manmade habitats are the preferred breeding habitats of this species - Cygnus olor is of particular interest in studies of urban biodiversity. The latest records show that 30-40 pairs breed annually in Rīga, 400-700 individuals migrate through the area, and 120-150 individuals stay over winter. The goal of our study was to determine the genetic variation of the mute swan population in Rīga. Blood samples were collected from 47 individual birds found in different sites in Rīga or elsewhere in Latvia. The universal retrotransposon based iPBS markers were used to estimate diversity. Three primer…
Romanian Village Halls in the Early 1950s: Between Cultural and Political Propaganda
2015

Village halls [Romanian: cămine culturale] appeared in many European
countries and elsewhere as early as the nineteenth century and multiplied in the twentieth.
The presence of these institutions in the rural world, despite obvious differences in their
goals and activities, demonstrates a general interest in the cultural development of
villages, as well as the emergence and growth of leisure practices amongst peasants. This
essay is not a study of the history of village halls; rather, it focuses on the changes that this
institution underwent in the early years of the communist regime in Romania. It analyses<br /&g…
Long-term changes in the water temperature of rivers in Latvia
2016
Abstract The study describes the trends of monthly mean water temperature (from May to October) and the annual maximum water temperature of the rivers in Latvia during the time period from 1945 to 2000. The results demonstrated that the mean water temperatures during the monitoring period from May to October were higher in the largest rivers (from 13.6 °C to 16.1 °C) compared to those in the smallest rivers (from 11.5 °C to 15.7 °C). Similar patterns were seen for the maximum water temperature: in large rivers from 22.9 °C to 25.7 °C, and in small rivers from 20.8 °C to 25.8 °C. Generally, lower water temperatures occurred in rivers with a high groundwater inflow rate, for example, in river…
Financiación de asociaciones: examen especial del ejercicio de actividades económicas
2019
The economic crisis has led to an increase in the funding needs of associations and at the same time, a decrease of its resources. In view of this situation, we will examine the different existing possibilities to obtain a stable financial framework and, in light of the limitations which other systems suffer from, we will conclude that implementation of economic activities will prove to be the most practical solution. However, this exercise faces the disapproval of the Administration which considers, in many cases, that said alternative leads to the loss of its declaration of public utility and subsequently the possibility of opting for the privileged tax regime inherent in Law 49/2002 on T…
Working college students’ profile Case Study: Faculty of Engineering Sibiu, Romania
2017
Abstract Faculty of Engineering in Sibiu is facing an increasing demand from industrial companies to employ students not only by the time of graduation but even during university studies. The scope of the study was to provide an insight on working students’ profile and the problems they are confronting with. Forty working students from the third year of Faculty of Engineering Sibiu were interviewed with regard of the research topic. Results of the study reflect the fact that a majority of working students face difficulties in school, having low grades or failed exams. The exam session seems to be a hard period for working students, and many of them find difficulties in attending all lecture…
Stress among working college students Case Study: Faculty of Engineering Sibiu, Romania
2017
Abstract Working students face many challenges: they must balance work, school, extracurricular activities, and personal life. Several studies reflected the fact that this balancing act goes hand-in-hand with the level of stress. The scope of the study was to find out whether working students in the Faculty of Engineering Sibiu experience different levels of stress compared with the non-working students. Eighty students from the third year of studies were interviewed regarding the research topic. The interviewed students were randomly selected, five working and five non-working students from each of the eight faculty specializations. The results of the study reflect the fact that the manage…
Ecology and Diversity of Urban Pine Forest Soil Invertebrates in Rīga, Latvia / Augsnes Bezmugurkaulnieku Bioloģiskā Daudzveidība Urbānajos Priežu Me…
2015
Abstract A study on ecology and diversity of soil invertebrates of urban pine and mixed pine forests was carried out in seven different sampling plots in Rīga during 2014. Ninety eight soil samples were processed and in total, 40 426 specimens were extracted (of them, 25 237 specimens were identified to species level and 15 189 to order level). Indices (abundance, community similarity etc.) characterising faunal diversity and species communities of Rīga city soil fauna were estimated. The most numerous soil invertebrate groups were Collembola, Oribatida and Mesostigmata, accounting for 95% of all collected animals. There was rather high diversity of soil invertebrates in the disturbed urban…
