Attracting sets in network regulatory theory
2016
Modern telecommunication networks are very complex and they should be able to deal with rapid and unpredictable changes in traffic flows. Virtual Network Topology is used to carry IP traffic over Wavelength-division multiplexing optical network. To use network resources in the most optimal way, there is a need for an algorithm, which will dynamically re-share resources among all devices in the particular network segment, based on links utilization between routers. Attractor selection mechanism could be used to dynamically control such Virtual Network Topology. The advantage of this algorithm is that it can adopt to very rapid, unknown and unpredictable changes in traffic flows. This mechani…
Integration Issues of Distributed Generators Considering Faults in Electrical Distribution Networks
2014
In the recent years there is a great interest in integration of distributed generation (DG) units at distribution level; this integration leads to planning as well as operational challenges. Some possibilities to handle grid planning issues are addressed in this paper. Effects on grid protection, fault current level, and voltage profile are investigated and described for different types of DG units; the classification of DG units is based on their terminal characteristics in terms of real and reactive power delivering capability. Different scenarios for mis-coordination problems caused by DG interconnection are discussed. The effect of the DG on the voltage profile of a distribution network…
Evaluation of the power quality from a seawave power farm for different interconnection schemes
2007
In this paper we present an approach to the interconnection of a seawave power farm to the grid The generator type used in the farm is a Permanent Magnet (PM) linear generator driven from the seawaves that generates, therefore, highly distorted emfs. We propose and compare two possible ways to interconnect the farm to the grid. One is based on an approach where for each generator there is a conversion subsystem that permits the direct connection of each generator to the a.c. network, the other one is based on an ac.-d.c. converter that is connected to the generator, the converter is connected to a dc link that can receive the power from every unit and that can supply a dc-ac converter direc…
Analysis of interconnection substations for sewave power farms
2014
In this paper we analyse the interconnection of a seawave power farm to the grid. The generator type used in the farm is a linear synchronous generator driven from the seawaves that generates, highly distorted emfs. We presents two possible ways to interconnect the farm to the grid. One is based on an approach where for each generator there is a conversion subsystem that permits the direct connection of each generator to the a.c. network, the other one is based on an a.c.-d.c. converter that is connected to the generator, the converter is connected to a dc link that can receive the power from every unit and that can supply a dc-ac converter directly connected to the main.
Benefits from energy policy synchronisation of Brazil’s North-Northeast interconnection
2020
Abstract During the last 10 years Brazil has accelerated the incorporation of new wind capacity into its power matrix. This situation has generated the need for increased transport capacity. However, there have been delays in the planning process for new transmission line construction, thus inducing trapped electricity in the system; in other words, electricity that cannot be dispatched to the interconnected system. Using system dynamics modelling, this paper assesses energy policy alternatives for improving the synchronisation between the construction of both power generation and transmission capacities. Simulation results show that policy synchronisation within the wind industry may provi…
Mechanisms involved in the transmission of epigenetic deregulation : analyses of transmission in human sperm
2018
The notion that environmental exposure can be memorized and promote epimutation (defined as defects on DNA methylation) raises the question of possible epigenetic transgenerational transmission in humans. To address whether an epimutation could be transmitted in humans, we pursued two axes. First, the evaluation of intergenerational transmission in the family of a Silver-Russell patient has shown, for the first time, the efficiency of epigenetic reprogramming in humans, specifically on imprinted regions. Indeed, no imprinted defect on causal H19/IGF2 locus was detected in the patient’s spermatozoa or in the DNA of his daughter. The second axis was to assess the presence of sperm epimutation…
Beyond Social and Family Generations
2019
Here the theoretical foundations on which the arguments in the book are built are developed. The chapter begins by introducing the concept of generation as both a cohort-based and a family-based construction. A discussion then follows of how various forms of intergenerational solidarity and conflict shape the relationships between family generations. Particular attention is paid to the need for an approach that goes beyond any strict generational division and is more sensitive to the ways in which individual lives are interconnected through the use of digital technologies. To assist in this task, a post-Mannheimian approach to generational identity is outlined.
Gender differences in the intergenerational transmission of education in Spain: the role of parents’ employment status and education
2020
This article examines the influence of parents’ education and employment status on the attained educational level of their children with special reference to gender differences. Our study analysed ...
Gender discrimination and intergenerational transmission of preferences
2004
This paper provides an explanation for the existence of gender discrimination in the labour market focusing on the intergenerational transmission of preferences related to the attitude of women towards jobs and family. Changes in women's preferences over generations depend on the socialization efforts of their parents which in turn are influenced by both the firm's expected recruitment policy and the expected utility from household care. We obtain two types of steady state equilibria: the discriminatory equilibrium, in which women are segregated to low-paid jobs, and the non-discriminatory equilibrium, in which women are hired in highly-paid jobs. The conditions of convergence to each equil…
La festa popular vicentina a València
2019
EnglishThe article explores the historical evolution of the popular festival in honor of saint Vincent Ferrer in Valencia, analyzing its various phases: traditional feast, modern feast and contemporary feast. Likewise, the Vicentine miracles stand out as the central reference of the festive ritual sequence, together with the street sociability that made possible the intergenerational transmission of the party. The text also reflects on the factors that the current Vicentine popular festival receives, which needs to be reconsidered in a context of advanced modernity. catalaL’article explora l’evolucio historica de la festa popular en honor de sant Vicent Ferrer a Valencia, analitzant les seu…
