Media Delivery to Remote Renderers Controlled by the Mobile Phone

2009

In today's content delivery solutions, service delivery and control are still tightly coupled, a service typically being delivered to the same device that controls the session. We present a solution that was designed with the goal to decouple service control and delivery. Using our approach, multimedia streaming services can be delivered to off-the-shelf DLNA devices in visited networks. The service provider receives information about the remote media player and access environment via a mobile phone. Proximity technologies (e.g. barcodes, NFC) of the control device are used for the exchange of required credentials. This paper describes a typical scenario and our prototype implementation.

A global service level guarantee in NGN networks

2010

In this paper, we propose an end-to-end service level negotiation protocol which enables a global service offer covering quality of service (QoS) and security while taking into account user's mobility in this offer. This protocol provides all the domains involved in the transport of a various offered services with a negotiation capability to achieve an agreement on a service level. This paper shows also results of measurements evaluating the performances of the considered negotiation protocol and security impact on QoS.

UWSIO: Towards automatic orchestration for the deployment of 5G monitoring services from bare metal

2018

The next generation mobile networks 5G are currently being intensively developed and standardized globally, with commercial prototyping 5G connections already emerging. At the 5G system level, one of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) defining 5G is substantially reduced service creation time for 5G network operators and/or service providers to increase the system efficiency and thus reduce operational costs. In this work, we focus on realize this challenging KPI in terms of speedy creation of monitoring services for 5G operators from scratch (no operating system pre-installed). A new 5G infrastructure orchestrator UWSIO is proposed to achieve fully automated deployment of 5G monitoring …

An Integrated Multi-service Software Simulation Platform: SIMPSONS Architecture

2005

This paper describes SIMPSONS (SIp and MPls Simulations On NS-2), which is a software platform for simulating multiple network scenarios, such as Telephony Over IP (TOIP), and multi-services networks extending the functionalities of Network Simulator NS-2. The innovative aspects of SIMPSONS is the complete integration of control protocols and traffic engineering mechanisms inside the same simulation tool. In fact, next generation networks must meet basically two fundamental requirements: support of Quality of Service (QoS) and Traffic Engineering (TE) functionalities. SIMPSONS is able to simulate DiffServ, MPLS, OSPF and SIP and their interaction in everything TOIP scenario. So with this po…

Transport service for session initiation protocol in SIP-T scenarios

2005

The traditional telephone service has undergone deep changes in the years concerning the techniques of commutation and signaling. Today, public switched telecom networks (PSTNs) and private integrated services networks (PINSs) are strongly directed to adopt IP-based backbone. If it is possible to transfer the voice on packet switching network, in such reliable way, using voice over IP (VoIP) techniques, there is not still a valid alternative to the signaling systems, reliable and unfailing, like signaling system n.7 (SST). Session initiation protocol (SIP) seems to be the best candidate. SIP is an application layer signaling protocol and the problem remains still opened for what it concerns…

A Posteriori Methods

1998

A posteriori methods could also be called methods for generating Pareto optimal solutions. After the Pareto optimal set (or a part of it) has been generated, it is presented to the decision maker, who selects the most preferred among the alternatives. The inconveniences here are that the generation process is usually computationally expensive and sometimes in part, at least, difficult. On the other hand, it is hard for the decision maker to select from a large set of alternatives. One more important question is how to present or display the alternatives to the decision maker in an effective way. The working order in these methods is: 1) analyst, 2) decision maker.

INVESTIGATION OF BIOTIC STRESS RESPONSES IN FRUIT TREE CROPS USING META-ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES.

2020

In recent years, RNA sequencing and analysis using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) methods have enabled to understand the gene expression pertaining to plant biotic and abiotic stress conditions in both quantitative and qualitative manner. The large number of transcriptomic works published in plants requires more meta-analysis studies that would identify common and specific features in relation of the high number of objective studies performed at different developmental and environmental conditions. Meta-analysis of transcriptomic data will identify commonalities and differences between differentially regulated gene lists and will allow screen which genes are key players in gene-gene and p…

Food sustainability perception at universities: Education and demographic features effects

2022

The 2030 Agenda of the United Nations merged in 17 goals the strong need to change the pattern of human life on the planet in a path of strengthening sustainability especially in an era that is widely defined as Anthropocene. The Global Action Program (GAP) on Education and Sustainable Development was adopted based on the power of education and knowledge with the idea of 'green universities' aimed at improving the perception of sustainability for future policy decisions. Based on a Best-Worst (BW) scaling methodological approach, in this study we quantified the preferences of generation Y at University of Turin as they relate to issues explicitly connected to the ordinary consumption of foo…

Somatic embryogenesis of Vitis vinifera L. (cv Sugraone) from stigma and style culture

2015

Somatic embryo and plant regeneration were induced from stigma and style culture of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Sugraone). To obtain somatic embryogenesis, explants were cultured on Nitsch and Nitsch basal medium (NN) supplemented with 88 mM sucrose and various combinations of the auxin β-naphthoxyacetic acid (NOA, 0-10 μM) and the cytokinin 6-benzylaminopurine (BA, 0-9 μM). Growth regulators (BA and NOA) in the culture medium were essential for induction of somatic embryogenesis since explants incubated on hormone-free medium never regenerated somatic embryos. Usually, the regenerated somatic embryos become visible as small white globular structures on the surface of the callus 3-4 mo…

Past cover modulates the intense and spatially structured natural regeneration of woody vegetation in a pastureland

2020

Made available in DSpace on 2020-12-12T02:34:44Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-03-01 Università degli Studi di Palermo Ministero dell’Istruzione, dell’Università e della Ricerca Vegetation natural regeneration after agricultural abandonment is changing the landscape patterns in many areas worldwide. However, the expansion rate, spatio-temporal dynamics, and the role of past vegetation cover in shaping such patterns are still barely quantified in fine and meso scales. Here, we aim to quantify the expansion rate and assess the spatio-temporal patterns and the effects of past cover on natural woody vegetation cover increase. We sampled woodland and shrubland cover from …
