Common miRNA Patterns of Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease and Their Putative Impact on Commensal Gut Microbiota.
2019
With the rise of Next-Generation-Sequencing (NGS) methods, Micro-RNAs (miRNAs) have achieved an important position in the research landscape and have been found to present valuable diagnostic tools in various diseases such as multiple sclerosis or lung cancer. There is also emerging evidence that miRNAs play an important role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or Parkinson’s disease (PD). Apparently, these diseases come along with changes in miRNA expression patterns which led to attempts from researchers to use these small RNA species from several body fluids for a better diagnosis and in order to observe disease progression. Additionally, it…
In Vivo Reprogramming for Brain and Spinal Cord Repair.
2015
AbstractCell reprogramming technologies have enabled the generation of various specific cell types including neurons from readily accessible patient cells, such as skin fibroblasts, providing an intriguing novel cell source for autologous cell transplantation. However, cell transplantation faces several difficult hurdles such as cell production and purification, long-term survival, and functional integration after transplantation. Recently,in vivoreprogramming, which makes use of endogenous cells for regeneration purpose, emerged as a new approach to circumvent cell transplantation. There has been evidence forin vivoreprogramming in the mouse pancreas, heart, and brain and spinal cord with …
Morphometric and histopathological analysis of articular cartilage regeneration on tissue engineered scaffolds
2014

Water Supply in Rwanda Use of Photovoltaic Systems for Irrigation
2015
The current energy situation in the world where most of the energy needed is generated from non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels is no longer sustainable. During few years, nonrenewable sources have become an interesting solution to provide energy to areas with small needs of electricity, rather than using non-renewable sources. Therefore, this project has pursued to implement photovoltaics panels to supply energy in a rural region in central Africa, contributing to the development of the area and proving that this technology is viable to pump water for irrigation instead of the conventional electric grid. A rural area between Kidogo Lake and Rilima town, in Bugesera district of Rwand…

Direct Reprogramming of Somatic Cells into Induced Neuronal Cells: Where We Are and Where We Want to Go
2014
Direct reprogramming of somatic cells has emerged as a novel strategy to generate neurons, including those of human origin. The method provides enormous potential for studying the mechanisms directing neuronal differentiation, the modeling of neurodegenerative diseases, and the development of potential novel approaches for brain repair. In this chapter, we briefly trace the history of reprogramming, as well as the strategies employed to date for converting different types of somatic cells, including fibroblasts, hepatocytes, astrocytes, and pericytes into induced neuronal cells of different subtype identity. Reprogramming involves particular emphasis on transcriptional and posttranscription…
Urban regeneration of abandoned and contaminated industrial areas. Case study: Eternitten district in Aalborg (DK)
2020
The article describes the decontamination and regeneration process of the Eternitten district, an abandoned industrial complex for the production of cement and asbestos south of Aalborg, in a new multifunctional and sustainable neighbourhood. The designation of the district as an urban transformation area is part of a general regeneration of Aalborg whose industrial profile is gradually being replaced by a new profile more oriented towards culture and innovation. Eternittens Vidensby Village 21, from eternit factory to knowledge factory, is the vision – developed by Kjær & Richter for Søren Enggaard A/S – for an innovative use of the neighbourhood. The vision, which is inspired by the v…

Trasformazione e riuso dei vuoti urbani: quattro casi studio
2016
