Predicting perceived health in Angolan elderly: The moderator effect of being oldest old

2012

The objective of this study was to test the predicting effects of variables measuring social support, dependence/active perceptions, and generativity, on this facet of well-being when controlled for socio-demographic variables (age, gender, marital status, and institutionalization). The research tries to extend previous literature by assessing them in a multivariate context, studying differential effects of these variables in young old and oldest old, and offering evidence of the scarcely studied population of Angola. The sample was formed by 737 young old and 266 oldest old. It was built a hierarchical regression, in which, among the different predictors, interactions effects between age a…

Predicting life satisfaction of the Angolan elderly: A structural model

2012

Satisfaction with life is of particular interest in the study of old age well-being because it has arisen as an important component of old age. A considerable amount of research has been done to explain life satisfaction in the elderly, and there is growing empirical evidence on best predictors of life satisfaction. This research evaluates the predictive power of some aging process variables, on Angolan elderly people's life satisfaction, while including perceived health into the model. Data for this research come from a cross-sectional survey of elderly people living in the capital of Angola, Luanda. A total of 1003 Angolan elderly were surveyed on socio-demographic information, perceived …

Narrare la generatività familiare

2018

The author proposes a short reflection on the training of the emotional system of the subject; that is a pedagogically relevant theme because it allows to comprehend the first emotional literacy that happens in family. It also helps to explore the…

The structure of mental well-being and its relationship with generativity in middle adulthood and the beginning of late adulthood

2023

Previous studies have linked higher generativity with better mental well-being. However, most of these studies investigated the predictive role of generativity in well-being, while the converse relation, that is, how mental well-being contributes to generativity, has been ignored. This study first investigated the structure and stability of multidimensional mental well-being, that is, emotional (including happiness, life satisfaction, and positive and negative mood), psychological, and social well-being and the absence of depressive feelings, from age 42 to 61. Second, longitudinal associations between mental well-being and generativity were examined. The data ( n = 301) utilized in this s…

The Development of Generativity in Middle Adulthood and the Beginning of Late Adulthood: A Longitudinal Study from Age 42 to 61

2023

AbstractPrevious studies have yielded mixed results regarding the development of generativity during adulthood. Longitudinal data were utilized to investigate the average development of generativity between the ages of 42 and 61 as well as individual differences in terms of its development. The study used data from the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS) (initial N = 369). The data consisted of 291 individuals whose generativity scores, measured using the Generativity Scale, were available at age 42, 50, or 61. Rasch analysis was utilized to form a generativity measure. The development of generativity between the measurements was investigated in women a…

DAL DIRITTO AL FIGLIO AL DIRITTO DEL BAMBINO AD AVERE UNA FAMIGLIA. QUESTIONI DI RESPONSABILITA' EDUCATIVE

2019

The paper has a twofold aim. First, it intends to offer a critical review of some phenomena related to the various claims of “right to a child”. These are phenomena, that are progressively emerging in the so-called “family” realities, in our time of the late modernity, and that, in many respects, seem to be summed up in the possibility of “surrogate motherhood”. If looked at with attention not only empirically, these phenomena can tell us something really significant about the way in which both the reality of the family and, more radically, the reality of the person, are today understood. These phenomena challenge pedagogy as well as philosophy as education to deepen a reflection on meaning…
