SYSTEMS DECOMPOSITION AND COUPLING
1993
In order to handle efficiently complex models of real systems, it is a convenient practice to decompose them into subsystems that are validated independently. The next step would be joining the subsystems into a global system and performing a new global validation. A formalization of this process is performed as a consequence of practical experience with a model generator expert system based on general systems theory.
Metric Lie groups admitting dilations
2019
We consider left-invariant distances $d$ on a Lie group $G$ with the property that there exists a multiplicative one-parameter group of Lie automorphisms $(0, \infty)\rightarrow\mathtt{Aut}(G)$, $\lambda\mapsto\delta_\lambda$, so that $ d(\delta_\lambda x,\delta_\lambda y) = \lambda d(x,y)$, for all $x,y\in G$ and all $\lambda>0$. First, we show that all such distances are admissible, that is, they induce the manifold topology. Second, we characterize multiplicative one-parameter groups of Lie automorphisms that are dilations for some left-invariant distance in terms of algebraic properties of their infinitesimal generator. Third, we show that an admissible left-invariant distance on a Lie …
Mass, zero mass and ... nophysics
2017
In this paper we demonstrate that massless particles cannot be considered as limiting case of massive particles. Instead, the usual symmetry structure based on semisimple groups like $U(1)$, $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ has to be replaced by less usual solvable groups like the minimal nonabelian group ${\rm sol}_2$. Starting from the proper orthochronous Lorentz group ${\rm Lor}_{1,3}$ we extend Wigner's little group by an additional generator, obtaining the maximal solvable or Borel subgroup ${\rm Bor}_{1,3}$ which is equivalent to the Kronecker sum of two copies of ${\rm sol}_2$, telling something about the helicity of particle and antiparticle states.
Indoor Fast Neutron Generator for Biophysical and Electronic Applications
2018
This study focuses the attention on an indoor fast neutron generator for biophysical and electronic applications. More specifically, the findings obtained by several simulations with the MCNP Monte Carlo code, necessary for the realization of a shield for indoor measurements, are presented. Furthermore, an evaluation of the neutron spectrum modification caused by the shielding is reported. Fast neutron generators are a valid and interesting available source of neutrons, increasingly employed in a wide range of research fields, such as science and engineering. The employed portable pulsed neutron source is a MP320 Thermo Scientific neutron generator, able to generate 2.5 MeV neutrons with a …
Dynamic Modeling and Driving Cycle Prediction for a Racing Series Hybrid Car
2014
International audience; This paper presents Noao, a plug-in series hybrid racing car equipped with an engine/generator set as range extender. To determine the velocity profile, i.e., performance of the car and its power profile, a dynamic model for this car is developed using pedal position as input. This value is easy to measure, representative for race cycles, and presents a novelty. The model is validated with the results from experiments. An analysis based on the map of Magny-Cours racing circuit and drivers pedal action on certain zones of the circuit is formulated and is used as a prediction tool to determine drivers inputs on other racing circuits and generate driving schedules. The …
Experimental Assessment of the Backoff Behavior of Commercial IEEE 802.11b Network Cards
2007
It has been observed that different IEEE 802.11 commercial cards produced by different vendors experience different performance, either when accessing alone the channel, as well as when competing against each other. These differences persist also when thorough measurement methodologies (such as RF shielding, laptop rotation, etc) are applied, and alignment of the environmental factors (same laptop models, traffic generators, etc) is carried out. This paper provides an extensive experimental characterization of the backoff operation of six commercial NIC cards. It suggests a relevant methodological approach, namely a repeatable, well defined, set of experiments, for such a characterization. …
Generating Hyperspectral Skin Cancer Imagery using Generative Adversarial Neural Network
2020
In this study we develop a proof of concept of using generative adversarial neural networks in hyperspectral skin cancer imagery production. Generative adversarial neural network is a neural network, where two neural networks compete. The generator tries to produce data that is similar to the measured data, and the discriminator tries to correctly classify the data as fake or real. This is a reinforcement learning model, where both models get reinforcement based on their performance. In the training of the discriminator we use data measured from skin cancer patients. The aim for the study is to develop a generator for augmenting hyperspectral skin cancer imagery. peerReviewed
Evaluation of the power quality from a seawave power farm for different interconnection schemes
2007
In this paper we present an approach to the interconnection of a seawave power farm to the grid The generator type used in the farm is a Permanent Magnet (PM) linear generator driven from the seawaves that generates, therefore, highly distorted emfs. We propose and compare two possible ways to interconnect the farm to the grid. One is based on an approach where for each generator there is a conversion subsystem that permits the direct connection of each generator to the a.c. network, the other one is based on an ac.-d.c. converter that is connected to the generator, the converter is connected to a dc link that can receive the power from every unit and that can supply a dc-ac converter direc…
Analysis of interconnection substations for sewave power farms
2014
In this paper we analyse the interconnection of a seawave power farm to the grid. The generator type used in the farm is a linear synchronous generator driven from the seawaves that generates, highly distorted emfs. We presents two possible ways to interconnect the farm to the grid. One is based on an approach where for each generator there is a conversion subsystem that permits the direct connection of each generator to the a.c. network, the other one is based on an a.c.-d.c. converter that is connected to the generator, the converter is connected to a dc link that can receive the power from every unit and that can supply a dc-ac converter directly connected to the main.
Energetic macroscopic representation and inversion based control of fuel cell in a series hybrid race vehicle system
2020
This paper studies the replacement of engine and generator as range extender in a hybrid racing car with a fuel cell system. A model of the original system of the car using range extender consisting of an internal combustion engine and electric generator has been developed respecting the action-reaction principle used by energetic macroscopic representation (EMR) and its inversion based control (IBC) to organise its subsystems interconnection according to the physical causality. Results from drive tests of the real car on racing circuit are used to validate the model. The objective of this paper is to study the parameterisation and the integration of fuel cell stack components based on this…
