Current methods of embryo evaluation rely mainly on static observations of the embryo´s morphology. Alternative reproductive tactics and the propensity of hybridization

One explanation for hybridization between species is the fitness benefits it occasionally confers to the hybridizing individuals. This explanation is possible in species that have evolved alternative male reproductive tactics: individuals with inferior tactics might be more prone to hybridization provided it increases their reproductive success and fitness. A genetic algorithm to calibrate dynamical systems: Confidence intervals for parameters and residuals

This paper presents a genetic algorithm to calibrate dynamical systems that is able to calculate confidence intervals for the parameters of the system. As an application case is used to calibrate the system that reproduces the dynamical response of the General Factor of Personality (GFP) to a given stimulus, particularly to a stimulant drug dose. The model is called in Literature as the response model and includes an integro-differential equation. The presented application case is a single case ABC experimental design where the stimulus is methylphenidate.

This paper presents the results of the application of a parallel Genetic Algorithm (GA) in order to design a Fuzzy Proportional Integral (FPI) controller for active queue management on Internet routers. The Active Queue Management (AQM) policies are those policies of router queue management that allow the detection of network congestion, the notification of such occurrences to the hosts on the network borders, and the adoption of a suitable control policy. RDB2OWL is a simple approach of mapping relational databases into independently developed OWL ontologies. The approach is based on creating a mapping RDB schema, filling it with mapping information from which SQL scripts are generated that perform the instance-level transformation. We describe the RDB2OWL mapping schema and report on successful application of the technology to the migration of Latvian medical registries data.

A genetic algorithm approach to purify the classifier training labels for the analysis of remote sensing imagery

This paper proposes a Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach to clean a given classifier training set for remote sensing image analysis. Starting from an initial set of training data, the new method called GA-Training Label Purifying (GA-TLP) consists of the significant training sample selection using GAs in order to maximize the classifier accuracy. This means to retain the most informative samples and to remove the uncertain, redundant, and misclassified ones. As a result of the selection process, we can obtain a purified training set. The proposed model is implemented and evaluated using a LANDSAT 7 ETM+ image. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In independent component analysis (ICA), the selection of model order (i.e., number of components to be extracted) has crucial effects on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) brain network analysis. Model order selection (MOS) algorithms have been used to determine the number of estimated components. However, simulations show that even when the model order equals the number of simulated signal sources, traditional ICA algorithms may misestimate the spatial maps of the signal sources.
