The Diversity of the Philippine Population
2017
A country of many islands, the Philippines is also a country of many languages. The Tagalog language of Manila has been chosen as the base of the national Pilipino language, even if Cebuano counts as many speakers. The languages of the Philippines have common grammatical structures, but wide differences in vocabulary. Contrary to Latin America where Spanish and Portuguese became the dominant languages, Spanish did not dominate the local languages, since colonial priests preferred to learn local languages rather than teaching Spanish to their flocks. English, as the second colonial language, is spoken much more, since the Americans educated Filipinos in English as part of their “benevolent a…
CarboxyAmido-Triazole Orotate inhibits the growth of Imatinib-resistant chronic myeloid leukaemia cells and modulates exosomes-stimulated angiogenesis
2012
Chronic myelogenous leukemia is a myeloproliferative disorder characterized by the t(9:22) (q34:q11) reciprocal chromosomal translocation, resulting in the expression of the chimeric Bcr–Abl oncoprotein with constitutive tyrosine kinase activity. Deregulated Bcr–Abl induces the hyperactivation of various signalling pathways that promote cell growth, suppress apoptosis and alter cell adhesion. Bcr-Abl has also been involved in VEGF-mediated angiogenesis in CML and evidence indicates that the formation of new vessels plays an important role in the development and progression of CML. Imatinib mesylate (IM) is a selective well tolerated inhibitor of the Bcr–Abl tyrosine kinase that has signific…
A Smart Village as an Opportunity for Development of Borderland Areas of the Czech Republic and Poland
2018
In the conditions of sustainable development, a smart village is supposed to provide an answer to social, economic and environmental challenges which rural areas of Europe are faced with in the 21st century. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the social developmental potential of villages located in Opole Region. On the basis of questionnaire- based survey research carried out in 2018 among 100 managers of trade agricultural holdings based in Opole Province, the authors undertake to answer the question: Can the existing social capital be the driving force of smart transformation of rural areas in this region? In the study, networks of cooperation which are being formed in the b…
Whose voice? Understanding stakeholder involvement in law drafting affecting Sami reindeer herding
2019
A communication and a legal approach are combined to investigate stakehold-er involvement in law drafting affecting Sami reindeer herding. The thesis fo-cuses on Finland, participation in law drafting in the Act on Metsähallitus (For-est Management and Park Services) and consultation related to the adoption of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 169 concerning Indigenous and Tribal Peoples in Independent Countries. The research aims at gaining a better understanding of communication preceding and during law drafting processes regarding indigenous land use. It clarifies the changing con-text of the law drafting in which the issue of land use is addressed. Study 1 provi…
Biotic and abiotic soil properties influence survival of Listeria monocytogenes in soil
2013
International audience; Listeria monocytogenes is a food-borne pathogen responsible for the potentially fatal disease listeriosis and terrestrial ecosystems have been hypothesized to be its natural reservoir. Therefore, identifying the key edaphic factors that influence its survival in soil is critical. We measured the survival of L. monocytogenes in a set of 100 soil samples belonging to the French Soil Quality Monitoring Network. This soil collection is meant to be representative of the pedology and land use of the whole French territory. The population of L. monocytogenes in inoculated microcosms was enumerated by plate count after 7, 14 and 84 days of incubation. Analysis of survival pr…
Service Provisioning with Multiple Service Providers in 5G Ultra-dense Small Cell Networks
2015
In this work, a game theoretical approach for addressing the virtual network service providers (NSPs), small cell provider (SCP) and user interaction in heterogenous small cell networks is presented. In particular, we consider the users can select the services of different NSPs based on their prices. The NSPs have no dedicated hardware and need to rent from the SCP in term of radio resources, e.g., small cell base stations (SBSs) in order to provide satisfied services to the users. Due to the fact that the selfish parties involved aim at maximizing their own profits, a hierarchical dynamic game framework is presented to address interactive decision problem. In the lower-level, a Stackelberg…
V gamma 9V delta 2 T lymphocytes efficiently recognize and kill zoledronate-sensitized, imatinib-sensitive, and imatinib-resistant chronic myelogenou…
2010
Abstract Imatinib mesylate (imatinib), a competitive inhibitor of the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, is highly effective against chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) cells. However, because 20–30% of patients affected by CML display either primary or secondary resistance to imatinib, intentional activation of Vγ9Vδ2 T cells by phosphoantigens or by agents that cause their accumulation within cells, such as zoledronate, may represent a promising strategy for the design of a novel and highly innovative immunotherapy capable to overcome imatinib resistance. In this study, we show that Vγ9Vδ2 T lymphocytes recognize, trogocytose, and efficiently kill imatinib-sensitive and -resistant CML cell lines pre…

Mediterranean Tertiary lamproites derived from multiple source components in postcollisional geodynamics
2008
Abstract In the Mediterranean area, lamproitic provinces in Spain, Italy, Serbia and Macedonia have uniform geological, geochemical and petrographic characteristics. Mediterranean lamproites are SiO2-rich lamproites, characterized by relatively low CaO, Al2O3 and Na2O, and high K2O/Al2O3 and Mg-number. They are enriched in LILE relative to HFSE and in Pb, and show depletion in Ti, Nb and Ta. Mediterranean lamproites show huge regional variation of Sr, Nd and 207Pb/204Pb isotopic values, with 87Sr/86Sr range of 0.707–0.722, eNd range from −13 to −3, and 207Pb/204Pb range of 15.62–15.79. Lamproitic rocks are derived from melts with three components involved in their origin, characterized by c…
