Leaf anatomy in Tamarix arborea var. arborea (Tamaricaceae)

Previously unpublished data on the macro- and micro-morphological features of the leaf of Tamarix arborea var. arborea are provided. Clear differences in salt gland localization and type of venations were observed in the investigated species compared to other Tamarix species, thus emphasizing the taxonomic value of the leaf within this genus.

The genus Ruppia L. (Ruppiaceae) in the Mediterranean region: An overview

Abstract This paper reviews the current knowledge on the diversity, distribution and ecology of the genus Ruppia L. in the Mediterranean region. The genus Ruppia, a cosmopolitan aquatic plant complex, is generally restricted to shallow waters such as coastal lagoons and brackish habitats characterized by fine sediments and high salinity fluctuations. In these habitats Ruppia meadows play an important structural and functional role. Characterization of mitotic chromosomes of four species of the genus Diplodus: Karyotypes and chromosomal nucleolar organizer region phenotypes

Karyotypes have been described in four Mediterranean species of the genus Diplodus (Teleostei, Sparidae), D. vulgaris, D. puntazzo, D. sargus and D. annularis. Chromosomes were mainly acrocentric in all but D. vulgaris, where certain chromosome pairs were subtelocentric. A remarkable intraspecific heteromorphism in the number of NOR-bearing chromosomes along with a substantial interspecific variability in position of chromosomal Ag signals have been encountered. Currently, the genus Mauritanica O. Boettger, 1879 (Gastropoda Stylommatophora Clausiliidae) is widespread in north-eastern Algeria and central-northern Tunisia with six taxa. The taxonomic position of this genus has often been interpreted differently and the relationship with other similar genera, in particular with Siciliaria Vest, 1867, still remains to be clarified. Lake Baikal is famous for its extensive biodiversity that is equaled only by few other lakes. Fascinatingly, about 80% of all the animals the lake hosts are endemic. Sponges (Porifera) that live in symbiosis with photosynthetic algae are the most abundant animal taxon found in the littoral zone of Lake Baikal and have been grouped to the family Lubomirskiidae. Se presentan estudios antracológicos de yacimientos de la península Ibérica con el objetivo de conocer la flora durante el Solutrense y, a partir de ella, las condiciones termoclimáticas y ombroclimáticas. Con los datos publicados e inéditos se demuestra que los refugios de las especies más cálidas están al sur del paralelo 40º N. La flora identificada en los carbones se puede agrupar en cuatro categorías: criófilas, termófilas, matorral y ribera. Field distribution ofSorosphaera viticolain commercial vineyards in Germany

In the year 2000, resting spores of a previously undescribed plasmodiophorid were found in roots of Vitis spp. This plasmodiophorid was identified as a member of the genus Sorosphaera Schroeter and described as Sorosphaera viticola Kirchmair, Neuhauser, Huber. To attain information on the field distribution of Sorosphaera viticola, a selective screening was conducted in two commercial vineyards in Germany. A study to determine a correlation of Sorosphaeraviticola infection to grapevine growth was also performed.

Morphologically similar but not closely related: the long-spored species of Subulicystidium (Trechisporales, Basidiomycota)

AbstractSpecies boundaries and geographic distribution of corticioid fungi (resupinate Basidiomycota) are often poorly known. Our recent study on Subulicystidium showed that species diversity in this genus is at least twice as high as previously recognized. This re-estimation of the species diversity was based on a study of only a part of the genus. The present study sheds light on molecular and morphological diversity of three more species.
