Sensors / Cross-country skiing analysis and ski technique detection by high-precision kinematic global navigation satellite system

2019

Cross-country skiing (XCS) embraces a broad variety of techniques applied like a gear system according to external conditions, slope topography, and skier-related factors. The continuous detection of applied skiing techniques and cycle characteristics by application of unobtrusive sensor technology can provide useful information to enhance the quality of training and competition. (1) Background: We evaluated the possibility of using a high-precision kinematic global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to detect cross-country skiing classical style technique. (2) Methods: A world-class male XC skier was analyzed during a classical style 5.3-km time trial recorded with a high-precision kinemat…

Application of GPS technology to measurements of displacements of high-rise structures due to weak winds

2002

Abstract Global positioning systems (GPS) have been developed for military purposes like single-point positioning and navigation. The first non-military applications have been made for geodetic purposes with base-line measurements using differential methods. We introduce GPS technology as an alternative measurement method of displacements when high-rise structural systems are monitored. In this paper, two tests to evaluate the accuracy of the measurements using GPS are presented. Then the evaluation of ability of GPS to measure small movements of the Stuttgart TV-tower and the industrial chimney of Opole power station due to weak winds are also given.

Extremely low frequency magnetic fields in residences in Germany. Distribution of measurements, comparison of two methods for assessing exposure, and…

2001

We examined the results of 1,835 magnetic field measurements in German residences conducted between November 1997 and September 1999. The measurements were part of an epidemiological study on the relationship between magnetic fields and childhood leukemia. We performed a fixed-location measurement of the magnetic field at 50 Hz and 16 2/3 Hz (frequency of the German railway system) over 24 h in the child's bedroom in the residence of each study participant. In addition, we conducted a second 24 h-measurement in the living room at 50 Hz, and spot measurements while walking through all rooms of the respective dwelling. Median 50 Hz magnetic fields above 0.2 muT were found to be infrequent in …

2020

Abstract The preventive excavation from 2011, at Turdaș-Luncă, led to the discovery of over 2000 archaeological features. Among them is feature 959. Through this article we want to continue the series of publications related to the preventive excavation of 2011 and highlight certain aspects related to a possible organization of the communities that lived here.

AbstractKnowledge of the Earth’s changing rotation is fundamental to positioning objects in space and on the planet. Nowadays, the Earth’s orientation in space is expressed by five Earth Orientation Parameters (EOP). Many applications in astronomy, geosciences, and space missions require accurate EOP predictions. Operational predictions are released daily by the Rapid Service/Prediction Centre of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service (IERS). The prediction procedures and performances differ for the three EOP classes: polar motion, rotation angle (UT1-UTC), and the two celestial pole offsets (CPO), dX and dY. The IERS Annual Report 2016 shows Rapid Service CPO predic…

Improved Method for Orbital Elements Differential Correction.

1990

As was pointed out by IAU in 1976, an important problem in fundamental astronomy is the improvement of the vernal equinox and equator positions. To this aim, it is necessary to know the accurate values of minor planets orbital elements. The classical methods of orbital elements differential corrections are based on linking the observations at different epochs considering equal derivatives respect to the initial and osculating elements. In this paper we present an improved method in which the least squares matrix coefficients is calculated from the integration of the Lagrange planetary equations and its derivatives.

Die Regulierung des Gleichgewichtes der höheren Dipteren durch die Halteren

1951

The function of the halteres of the higherDiptera and its relation to their flight were tested by the aid of slowmotion pictures. The influence of the halteres on orientation has been demonstrated for each of the three axes around which the filmed animals were passively rotated.

Parameters for automated star identification

2014

The determination of parameters for identifying stars sensed by charge-coupled device (CCD) is discussed. Numerical experiments are summarized which support the parameter space bound estimation practicality of the proposed star pattern recognition and identification by matching with coordinate list in star catalogue. The parameter analysis performed to apply them for proper identification algorithm which is developed and used at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics. This algorithm is applied for identification of large volume star sets.

A First Assessment of the Corrections for the Consistency of the IAU2000 and IAU2006 Precession-Nutation Models

2020

The Earth precession-nutation model endorsed by resolutions of each the International Astronomical Union and the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics is composed of two theories developed independently, namely IAU2006 precession and IAU2000A nutation. The IAU2006 precession was adopted to supersede the precession part of the IAU 2000A precession-nutation model and tried to get the new precession theory dynamically consistent with the IAU2000A nutation. However, full consistency was not reached, and slight adjustments of the IAU2000A nutation amplitudes at the micro arcsecond level were required to ensure consistency. The first set of formulae for these corrections derived by Capita…
