Tibial tubercle osteotomy: effect of different osteotomy planes on contact surface area and tubercle anteriorization

In 1983, Fulkerson introduced a technique of tibial tubercle osteotomy performed according to an inclined plane with respect to frontal plane. Due to obliquity of the osteotomy plane, this procedure allows both anterior and medial transfer of the tibial tubercle. The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of the different degrees of the oblique plane of osteotomy on anterior displacement and the contact surface area of tibial tubercle. Time-optimal control of the purification of a qubit in contact with a structured environment

We investigate the time-optimal control of the purification of a qubit interacting with a structured environment, consisting of a strongly coupled two-level defect in interaction with a thermal bath. On the basis of a geometric analysis, we show for weak and strong interaction strengths that the optimal control strategy corresponds to a qubit in resonance with the reservoir mode. We investigate under which conditions qubit coherence and correlation between the qubit and the environment can speed up the control process.

Molecular correlation functions for uniaxial ellipsoids in the isotropic state

We perform event-driven molecular dynamics simulations of a system composed by uniaxial hard ellipsoids for different values of the aspect-ratio and packing fraction . We compare the molecular orientational-dependent structure factors previously calculated within the Percus-Yevick approximation with the numerical results. The agreement between theoretical and numerical results is rather satisfactory. We also show that, for specific orientational quantities, the molecular structure factors are sensitive to the particle shape and can be used to distinguish prolate from oblate ellipsoids. The paper focuses the survey and representation of the Pisana Tower in the Royal Palace of Palermo. The tower, which has recently been inserted in the UNESCO World Heritage List, was built in the XII century under the patronage of Norman kings. Along the centuries, the tower has undergone several transformations, to fit ever-changing uses. The coexistence of such heterogeneous elements, combined with the fragmentation of the passages connecting the levels of the tower, conceal the original unity and the typology of this historical building. The tree of life in the southern porch of the cathedral of Palermo: survey and geometric analysis

This study focuses one of the most puzzling works of art made in Palermo at the end of the medieval age: the tree of life, a rich geometrical decoration with animal and human figures in the southern porch of the Cathedral of Palermo. Topographic and SfM photogrammetric methods produced a detailed orthophoto of the porch. Images collected during restoration have been rectified and superimposed to the orthophoto. The geometrical analysis of the decorative patterns reveals a complex design and meaningful links between the decoration and the general architectural layout of the porch.

Multiresolution Analysis for Meshes with Appearance Attributes

International audience; We present a new multiresolution analysis framework for irregular meshes with attributes based on the lifting scheme. We introduce a surface prediction operator to compute the detail coefficients for the geometry and the attributes of the model. Attribute analysis gives appearance information to complete the geometrical analysis of the model. A set of experimental results are given to show the efficiency of our framework. We present two applications to adaptive visual-ization and denoising.
Coplanar control of a satellite around the Earth

We investigate the minimum time transfer of a satellite around the Earth. Using an optimal control model, we study the controllability of the system and propose a geometrical analysis of the optimal command structure. Furthermore, in order to solve the problem numerically, a new parametric technique is introduced for which convergence properties are established.
The Geometry of a Domed Architecture: A Stately Example of Kārbandi at Bagh-e Dolat Abad in Yazd

This paper analyses the kārbandi of the Hashti pavilion at Bagh-e-Dolat Abad in Yazd. Kārbandi is a spatial system obtained through the projection of a star-shaped drawing onto a curved surface. It is characterised by a complex use of geometry and repetitive symmetry. The analysis of its geometrical aspects contributes to an understanding of the traditional rules underlying the original design. The kārbandi of the octagonal vestibule of the Hashti pavilion consists of a complex roof system that completes the octagonal volume of the room below; its intrados presents a pattern of interlocking ribbed arches.
