Indoor floors from Gien (8th-10th c. AD). Buildings materials, use of space and formation processes
2017
International audience; The refurbishing of the National museum of hunting at Gien (France) offers the opportunity to uncover the early castral occupation (8th-10th c. AD). High status habitats have been explored by archaeological and geoarchaeological methods, including micromorphology. The very well preservation of indoor floors allows to get data on building materials and the use of space, such as domestic housing, craft working and cereal processing.
1400 years of man-environment interactions and soil evolution in the Saint-Mont mountain (Remiremont, Vosges)
2021
International audience; The SolHoM(a) project aims at determining the degree of landscape anthropisation in the Fossard massif (Remiremont, Vosges, France) by estimating the impact of past human occupations on current soils. Nowadays, a forest covers this relatively inhospitable mountain (hard climate, steep slopes, acid soils ...), but some remains suggest human presence for at least 1400 years. The Saint-Mont is a variscan orogenic granitic summit (height 672m) with valuable preserved archaeological relics, located south of the Fossard. At the top was founded the monasterium Habendum (from the 7th century to the French Revolution), which potentially comes after a late-antic castrum.Further…

A particle based simulation model for glacier dynamics
2013
This publication is contribution number 22 of the Nordic Centre of Excellence SVALI, “Stability and Variations of Arctic Land Ice”, funded by the Nordic Top-level Research Initiative (TRI). The work has been supported by the SVALI project through the University of Lapland, Arctic Centre, and through the University Centre in Svalbard. Funding was also provided by the Conoco-Phillips and Lunding High North Research Program (CRIOS: Calving Rates and Impact on Society). A particle-based computer simulation model was developed for investigating the dynamics of glaciers. In the model, large ice bodies are made of discrete elastic particles which are bound together by massless elastic beams. These…
Cryogenic cave carbonate – a new tool for estimation of the Last Glacial permafrost depth of the Central Europe
2012
Abstract. Cryogenic cave carbonate (CCC) represents a specific type of speleothems, whose precipitation is triggered by freezing of mineralized karst water. Coarse-crystalline CCC, which formed during slow freezing of water in cave pools, is known in 20 Central European caves located in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. All these caves are situated in an area, which was glacier-free during the Weichselian. Whereas the formation of usual types of speleothems in caves of this region usually ceased during glacials, CCC precipitation was restricted to glacial periods. Since CCC represents a novel, useful paleoclimate proxy, data from Weichselian CCC occurrences in caves in Centr…
Stochastic assessment of climate impacts on hydrology and geomorphology of semiarid headwater basins using a physically-based model
2015
Hydrologic and geomorphic responses of watersheds to changes in climate are difficult to assess due to projection uncertainties and nonlinearity of the processes that are involved. Yet such assessments are increasingly needed and call for mechanistic approaches within a probabilistic framework. This study employs an integrated hydrology-geomorphology model, the Triangulated Irregular Network-based Real-time Integrated Basin Simulator (tRIBS)-Erosion, to analyze runoff and erosion sensitivity of seven semiarid headwater basins to projected climate conditions. The Advanced Weather Generator is used to produce two climate ensembles representative of the historic and future climate conditions f…
