Genetic structure and demographic inference of the regular sea urchin Sterechinus neumayeri (Meissner, 1900) in the Southern Ocean: the role of the l…

2018

22 pages; International audience; One of the most relevant characteristics of the extant Southern Ocean fauna is its resiliency to survive glacial processes of the Quaternary. These climatic events produced catastrophic habitat reductions and forced some marine benthic species to move, adapt or go extinct. The marine benthic species inhabiting the Antarctic upper continental shelf faced the Quaternary glaciations with different strategies that drastically modified population sizes and thus affected the amount and distribution of intraspecific genetic variation. Here we present new genetic information for the most conspicuous regular sea urchin of the Antarctic continental shelf, Sterechinus…

Estudio sedimentológico de los depósitos de inundación en la Ribera del Xúqer (Valencia), en octubre de1982

2013

As a result of the sedimentological study of a series of deposits corresponding to the exceptional flood in the Xuquer River in October 1982, we analyze the behaviour of fluvial dynamics. The sedimentary response enables us lo perceive certain differences between the deposits analyzed, bUI these do not completely adjust to the genetic patterns considered in the classic Geomorphology as the producers ofthe traits ofvertical growth generated during floods.

Assessing physical surrogates for biodiversity: Do tributary and stream type classifications reflect macroinvertebrate assemblage diversity in runnin…

2006

Landscape classifications are increasingly being used in conservation planning and biodiversity management, although there is a dearth of studies actually showing concordant patterns between such classifications and biodiversity. We studied the utility of tributary and stream type classifications in accounting for the variability of invertebrate biodiversity in a boreal drainage system. We found that only weak, although significant, differences existed between the studied three tributaries and four stream types in macroinvertebrate assemblage structure, species distributions, and taxonomic richness. Further, the classification strengths, calculated as mean within-group-similarity minus mean…

Complessivamente, tutti i processi morfogenet…

Geomorphological environment: dunes in Agrigento coast

2008

The structure of a hydrothermal system from an integrated geochemical, geophysical, and geological approach: The Ischia Island case study

2011

The complexity of volcano-hosted hydrothermal systems is such that thorough characterization requires extensive and interdisciplinary work. We use here an integrated multidisciplinary approach, combining geological investigations with hydrogeochemical and soil degassing prospecting, and resistivity surveys, to provide a comprehensive characterization of the shallow structure of the southwestern Ischia's hydrothermal system. We show that the investigated area is characterized by a structural setting that, although very complex, can be schematized in three sectors, namely, the extra caldera sector (ECS), caldera floor sector (CFS), and resurgent caldera sector (RCS). This contrasted structura…

COMPARATIVE CONSIDERATIONS ON THE ENERGY CONTENT OF SEISMIC WAVES IN CENTRAL AND LINEAR PATTERN SHOOTING*

1960

In continuation of a publication by Pierau and Mueller (1960), theoretical and experimental comparisons are made about the energy content of seismic waves for central and linear shotpoint arrangements. The following results are obtained: Using shotpoint arrangements as chosen for the investigation, the energy content of deep reflections is greater in linear than in central pattern shooting, provided that the total quantity of charge is the same in both cases. Furthermore the seismograms obtained with linear shotpoint arrays are less disturbed by surface waves than those obtained in central pattern shooting. Both effects are superimposed and improve considerably the signal-to-noise ratio, th…
