LKS-92 Coordinates Transformation to ITRF2000

2014

LKS-92 is Latvian geodetic coordinate system used as an EUREF89 realization in Latvia. LKS-92 is official coordinate system for procuring of essential geospatial data. For aeronautical and other purposes ITRF2000 is used in publication of geospatial data. Research is done to obtain transformation parameters from LKS-92 realization epoch 1992.75 through LatPos to ITRF2000 epoch 2000.00. Valuation of two different coordinate adjustment strategies and accuracy of parameters is done. Results of research could be used for transformation from LKS-92 to ITRF2000 for all kind of geospatial data.

Geomorphologic Risk Modelling of the Sibiu Depression Using Geospatial Surface Analyses

2011

Extreme events in general, and the geomorphologic ones in particular, are highly topical problems. There were addresses by many researchers in the field of geology and physical geography (more specific by the climatologists and geomorphologists), but also by biologists, chemists, ecologists, etc. These are studied through the analysis of some types of processes and production mechanisms, and secondly by the effects they create on other environmental subsystems.

ASSESSMENT OF ECOSYSTEM SERVICES FOR PLANNING OF GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL

2019

Ecosystem services (ES) are defined as the benefits that human beings derive from ecosystem functions. Assessment and mapping of these benefits are crucial for sustainable environmental planning and future natural capital. Green infrastructure (GI) is natural or semi-natural territories that provide wide range of ES. Human affected ecosystems tend to fail to provide certain sets of ES due to the trade-offs among those services, which could be mitigated through implementation of GI. Mapping of ES, as well as assessing the interactions among various ES and analysing their supply potential’s cold/hot spots considerably enhances and substantiates the planning process of GI, particularly at the …

Enforcing mobile security with location-aware role-based access control

2013

This paper describes how location-aware role-based access control RBAC can be implemented on top of the Geospatial eXtensible Access Control Markup Language GeoXACML. It furthermore sketches how spatial separation of duty constraints both static and dynamic can be implemented using GeoXACML on top of the XACML RBAC profile. The solution uses physical addressing of geographical locations, which facilitates easy deployment of authorisation profiles to the mobile device. Location-aware RBAC can be used to implement location-dependent access control and also other security enhancing solutions on mobile devices, such as location-dependent device locking, firewall, intrusion prevention or payment…

PMT: New analytical framework for automated evaluation of geo-environmental modelling approaches

2019

Geospatial computation, data transformation to a relevant statistical software, and step-wise quantitative performance assessment can be cumbersome, especially when considering that the entire modelling procedure is repeatedly interrupted by several input/output steps, and the self-consistency and self-adaptive response to the modelled data and the features therein are lost while handling the data from different kinds of working environments. To date, an automated and a comprehensive validation system, which includes both the cutoff-dependent and –independent evaluation criteria for spatial modelling approaches, has not yet been developed for GIS based methodologies. This study, for the fir…

Geospatial analysis of drought tendencies in the Carpathians as reflected in a 50-year time series

2019

Climate change is one of the most important issues of anthropogenic activities. The increasing drought conditions can cause water shortage and heat waves and can influence the agricultural production or the water supply of cities. The Carpathian region is also affected by this phenomenon; thus, we aimed at identifying the tendencies between 1960 and 2010 applying the CarpatClim (CC) database. We calculated the trends for each grid point of CC, plotted the results on maps, and applied statistical analysis on annual and seasonal level. We revealed that monthly average temperature, maximum temperature and evapotranspiration had similar patterns and had positive trends in all seasons except aut…

Geospatial modelling and map analysis allowed measuring regression of the upper limit of Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows under human pressure

2018

Abstract Marine coastal ecosystems are facing structural and functional changes due to the increasing human footprint worldwide, and the assessment of their long-term changes becomes particularly challenging. Measures of change can be done by comparing the observed ecosystem status to a purposely defined reference condition. In this paper, a geospatial modelling approach based on 2D mapping and morphodynamic data was used to predict the natural position of the upper limit (i.e., the landward continuous front) of Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows settled on soft bottom. This predictive model, formerly developed at the regional spatial scale, was here applied for the first time at the Medit…

AMUN: An Object Oriented Model For Cooperative Spatial Information Systems

1997

International audience; The diversity of spatial information systems promote the need to integrate heterogeneous spatial or geographic information systems (GIS) in a cooperative environment. We present an on going research project, called ISIS (Interoperable Spatial Information System), which aims to build an environment to support interoperability of GIS by interconnecting spatial data repositories and spatial processing resources. Our solution combines techniques from traditional interoperable information systems, spatial data modeling and distributed object oriented databases. While object oriented data modeling impact has been studied in spatial databases, research in model for distribu…

WebGIS Implementation for Dynamic Mapping and Visualization of Coastal Geospatial Data: A Case Study of BESS Project

2021

Within an E.U.-funded project, BESS (Pocket Beach Management and Remote Surveillance System), the notion of a geographic information system is an indispensable tool for managing the dynamics of georeferenced data and information for any form of territorial planning. This notion was further explored with the creation of a WebGIS portal that will allow local and regional stakeholders/authorities obtain an easy remote access tool to monitor the status of pocket beaches (PB) in the Maltese Archipelago and Sicily. In this paper, we provide a methodological approach for the implementation of a WebGIS necessary for very detailed dynamic mapping and visualization of geospatial coastal data

Interpreting Heterogeneous Geospatial Data Using Semantic Web Technologies

2016

International audience; The paper presents work on implementation of semantic technologies within a geospatial environment to provide a common base for further semantic interpretation. The work adds on the current works in similar areas where priorities are more on spatial data integration. We assert that having a common unified semantic view on heterogeneous datasets provides a dimension that allows us to extend beyond conventional concepts of searchability, reusability, composability and interoperability of digital geospatial data. It provides contextual understanding on geodata that will enhance effective interpretations through possible reasoning capabilities. We highlight this through …
