Application of Liquid-Liquid Partition Chromatography (LLPC) in the Preparation of Steroid Binding Proteins
1989
Two human serum proteins, i.e. sex hormone binding globulin (h-SHBG) and corticosteroid binding globulin (h-CBG), rat corticosteroid binding globulin (r-CBG), and progesterone binding globulin (PBG) from new guinea pig were purified by the application of three different modes of chromatography. The proteins were purified by affinity chromatography and anion exchange chromatography. Fractions containing the steroid binding proteins were finally purified by liquid-liquid partition chromatography on LiParGel 750 (Merck, Darmstadt, FRG). This Chromatographic sequence clearly separated the steroid binding proteins from other proteins, mainly from serum albumin without a loss of protein and compl…
Domain-Specific OWL Ontology Visualization with OWLGrEd
2015
The OWLGrEd ontology editor allows graphical visualization and authoring of OWL 2.0 ontologies using a compact yet intuitive presentation that combines UML class diagram notation with textual Manchester syntax for expressions. We present an extension mechanism for OWLGrEd that allows adding custom information areas, rules and visual effects to the ontology presentation thus enabling domain specific OWL ontology visualizations. The usage of OWLGrEd and its extensions is demonstrated on ontology engineering examples involving custom annotation visualizations, advanced UML class dia-gram constructs and integrity constraints in semantic database schema design.

A comparison of cytoplasmic and nuclear estradiol and progesterone receptors in human fallopian tube and endometrial tissue
1981
Quantitative and qualitative aspects of the in vitro binding of 3 H-estradiol and 3 H-progesterone to receptor components from human endometrium and fallopian tube cytoplasmic and nuclear fractions were studied. The steroid binding macromolecules formed in vitro could be extracted from nuclei by 0.4M KCl and detected by glycerol gradient centrifugation. Both estradiol- and progesterone-binding compounds formed only one peak (under high ionic strength conditions) with a sedimentation coefficient of about 4-5S. The number of cytoplasmic and nuclear binding sites for both estradiol and R5020 varied dramatically throughout the menstrual cycle: the estradiol and progesterone receptor concentrati…
Plant progesterone 5β-reductase is not homologous to the animal enzyme. Molecular evolutionary characterization of P5βR from Digitalis purpurea
2007
Plants of the genus Digitalis produce cardiac glycosides, i.e. digoxin, which are widely used for congestive heart failure. Progesterone 5beta-reductase (P5betaR) is a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of these natural products. Here, we have carried out the purification and partial amino acid sequencing of the native P5betaR from foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), and isolated a cDNA encoding this enzyme. Similarly to other steroid 5beta-reductases, the recombinant P5betaR catalyzes the stereospecific reduction of the Delta(4)-double bond of several steroids with a 3-oxo,Delta(4,5) structure. The gene encoding P5betaR is expressed in all plant organs, and maximally transcribed in leaves and matur…
Immunochromatographic Assay for Quantitation of Milk Progesterone.
1996
We describe a rapid immunochromatographic method for the quantitation of progesterone in bovine milk. The method is based on a 'competitive' assay format using the monoclonal antibody to progesterone and a progesterone-protein conjugate labelled with colloidal gold particles. The monoclonal antibody to progesterone is immobilized as a narrow detection zone on a porous membrane. The sample is mixed with colloidal gold particles coated with progesterone-protein conjugate, and the mixture is allowed to migrate past the detection zone. Migration is facilitated by capillary forces. The amount of labelled progesterone-protein conjugate bound to the detection zone, as detected by photometric scann…
Building Ontologies from XML Data Sources
2009
In this paper, we present a tool called X2OWL that aims at building an OWL ontology from an XML datasource. This method is based on XML schema to automatically generate the ontology structure, as well as, a set of mapping bridges. The presented method also includes a refinement step that allows to clean the mapping bridges and possibly to restructure the generated ontology.
Menopause and diabetes: EMAS clinical guide
2018
Abstract Introduction Whether menopause increases the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) independently of ageing has been a matter of debate. Controversy also exists about the benefits and risks of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) in women with T2DM. Aims To summarise the evidence on 1) the effect of menopause on metabolic parameters and the risk of T2DM, 2) the effect of T2DM on age at menopause, 3) the effect of MHT on the risk of T2DM, and 4) the management of postmenopausal women with T2DM. Materials and methods Literature review and consensus of experts’ opinions. Results and conclusion Metabolic changes during the menopausal transition include an increase in and the central redis…
Effects of different progesterone levels on reproductive outcomes in assisted reproductive technologies: from molecular basis to treatment strategies
2023
Purpose: The aim of this narrative review is to offer an overview about the role of progesterone levels on pregnancy outcome in patients undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). Methods: A detailed computerized search of the literature was performed in the main electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science) to determine the importance of elevated progesterone levels at different stages of the cycle for pregnancy rates in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. Our review also provides information on the differences between elevated progesterone levels and their interpretation in normal and in poorly responding women. Results: After careful evaluation, our search strateg…
Synchronization protocols in Spanish Merino sheep Reduction in time to estrus by the addition of eCG to a progesterone-based estrus synchronization p…
2015
Abstract An appropriate management of reproduction allows ewes to breed at a more intensive rhythm, more compatible with economic efficiency of farms. Hence, the objectives of the present work were to evaluate a traditional estrus synchronization protocol (based on medroxyprogesterone acetate-impregnated intravaginal sponges combined or not with equine chorionic gonadotropin) on a Merino sheep herd during the breeding season, in order to determine the best working protocol for this breed. A total of 277 sheep, blocked by age (200 ewes and 77 ewe lambs) were randomly allocated to four groups, two of ewes (E and Ee) and two of ewe lambs (L and Le). All females received 60 mg MAP (medroxyproge…
