Epidemiology, aetiology and treatment of skin and soft tissue infections: final report of a prospective multicentre national registry
2022
Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) represent a heterogenous group of pathological conditions involving the skin or the underlying subcutaneous tissues, fascia and muscle, characterised by a considerable variety of clinical presentations, severity and possible aetiological pathogens. Although previous analyses on restricted types of SSTIs and population have already been published, we conducted a large nationwide surveillance program on behalf of the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases to assess the clinical and microbiological characteristics of the whole SSTI spectrum, from mild to severe life-threatening infections, in both inpatients and outpatients and their managem…
Modelo predictivo preliminar para la identificación de pacientes con oportunidades de mejora farmacoterapéutica
2010
Objective: To develop a prediction model for identifying patients with the possibility of improving pharmacotherapy during the process of pharmaceutical validation of the prescription. Method: Cross-sectional study over two months, performed in the Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease divisions. Detecting opportunities for improving quality of pharmaco¬therapy is done by means of a pharmacist's validation of the prescription. Based on the information we obtained through this process, we performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis using as prognostic factors the demographic, pharmacotherapy and clinical variables related to identifying any drug-related problems (DRPs) in the pa…
Predicción de riesgo de rechazo agudo en pacientes con trasplante renal
2009
Objective: Create a model to predict the risk of acute rejection of kidney transplant considering variables related to the immunosuppressant agent used, the receiver, the donor and the transplanted organ. Methods: Cohort study in a population of 68 patients with kidney transplants being treated with tacrolimus triple therapy. Predicting the risk of acute rejection was carried out with a logistic regression analysis using age, sex, re-transplant status, number of HLA incompatibilities, cold ischaemia time, acute tubular necrosis, induction with basiliximab or thymoglobulin and treatment type as explanatory variables. The contribution of variables associated with determining the blood concent…
Factors Associated with Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine Acceptance among Pregnant Women: Data from Outpatient Women Experiencing High-Risk Pregnancy
2023
Pregnant women are at higher risk of severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) complications than non-pregnant women. The initial exclusion of pregnant women from anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccines clinical trials has caused a lack of conclusive data about safety and efficacy for this vulnerable population. This cross-sectional study aims to define the factors related to vaccination adherence in a sample of women experiencing high-risk pregnancies. The recruited women completed a questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model. Data were analyzed to evaluate the associations between socio-demographic variables and vaccination acceptance through descriptive, univariate and multivariate logistic analys…
Knowledge of and attitudes to influenza in unvaccinated primary care physicians and nurses
2014
Primary healthcare workers, especially nurses, are exposed to the vast majority of patients with influenza and play an important role in vaccinating patients. Healthcare workers' misconceptions about influenza and influenza vaccination have been reported as possible factors associated with lack of vaccination. The objective of this study was to compare the characteristics of unvaccinated physicians and unvaccinated nurses in the 2011-2012 influenza season. We performed an anonymous web survey of Spanish primary healthcare workers in 2012. Information was collected on vaccination and knowledge of and attitudes to the influenza vaccine. Multivariate analysis was performed using unconditional …
Appropriateness of oral anticoagulant therapy prescription and its associated factors in hospitalized older people with atrial fibrillation
2018
Aims Although oral anticoagulants (OACs) are effective in preventing stroke in older people with atrial fibrillation (AF), they are often underused in this particularly high-risk population. The aim of the present study was to assess the appropriateness of OAC prescription and its associated factors in hospitalized patients aged 65 years or older. Methods Data were obtained from the retrospective phase of Simulation-based Technologies to Improve the Appropriate Use of Oral Anticoagulants in Hospitalized Elderly Patients With Atrial Fibrillation (SIM-AF) study, held in 32 Italian internal medicine and geriatric wards. The appropriateness of OAC prescription was assessed, grouping patients in…
Standard versus personalized schedule of regorafenib in metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors: a retrospective, multicenter, real-world study
2021
Background Despite its proven activity as third-line treatment in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), regorafenib can present a poor tolerability profile which often leads to treatment modifications and transient or permanent discontinuation; thus, in clinical practice physicians usually adopt various dosing and interval schedules to counteract regorafenib-related adverse events and avoid treatment interruption. The aim of this real-world study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of personalized schedules of regorafenib in patients with metastatic GIST, in comparison with the standard schedule (160 mg daily, 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off). Patients and methods Institutional registries a…
L’échange par le don
2019
The article analyzes the problem of the gift, made famous in an anthropology by the Essay on the gift by Marcel Mauss, starting from a different perspective, that of the forms of spiritual kinship. The concepts of gift and exchange are analyzed in particular
An empirically grounded agent based simulator for the air traffic management in the SESAR scenario
2017
In this paper we present a simulator allowing to perform policy experiments relative to the air traffic management. Different SESAR solutions can be implemented in the model to see the reaction of the different stakeholders as well as other relevant metrics (delay, safety, etc). The model describes both the strategic phase associated to the planning of the flight trajectories and the tactical modifications occurring in the en-route phase. An implementation of the model is available as an open-source software and is freely accessible by any user. More specifically, different procedures related to business trajectories and free-routing are tested and we illustrate the capabilities of the mode…
Simulation of many-qubit quantum computation with matrix product states
2006
Matrix product states provide a natural entanglement basis to represent a quantum register and operate quantum gates on it. This scheme can be materialized to simulate a quantum adiabatic algorithm solving hard instances of a NP-Complete problem. Errors inherent to truncations of the exact action of interacting gates are controlled by the size of the matrices in the representation. The property of finding the right solution for an instance and the expected value of the energy are found to be remarkably robust against these errors. As a symbolic example, we simulate the algorithm solving a 100-qubit hard instance, that is, finding the correct product state out of ~ 10^30 possibilities. Accum…
