Biotekstila pārbaudes bioloģiskajās sistēmās
2020
Biotekstilmateriāli nodrošina barības vielām bagātu vidi cilvēka veselībai kaitīgiem mikroorganismiem, palielinot antimikrobiāla biotekstila pieprasījumu. Dzintars tiek uzskatīts par potenciālu aizsarglīdzekli. Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt biotekstila un tā ražošanā izmantoto dzintara mikro- un nanodaļiņu ietekmi uz mikroskopiskām sēnēm, biotekstila biodegradācijas iespējas augsnē, pielietojot radiālās augšanas, disku difūzijas, biotekstila rezistences noteikšanas un puves aizkavēšanas identifikācijas metodes. Dzintara daļiņu klātbūtne būtiski neietekmē mikroskopisko sēņu micēlija attīstību un sporulēšanu (P<0,05). Pie atsevišķām koncentrācijām uzrāda nenozīmīgu fungistatisku tendenci, vizu…
Site quality evaluation by classification tree: an application to cork quality in Sardinia
2005
Cork harvesting and stopper production represent a major forest industry in Sardinia (Italy). The target of the present investigation was to evaluate the ‘‘classification tree’’ as a tool to discover possible relationships between microsite characteristics and cork quality. Seven main cork oak (Quercus suber) producing areas have been identified in Sardinia, for a total of more than 122,000 ha. Sixty-three sample trees, distributed among different geographical locations and microsite conditions, were selected. A soil profile near each sample tree was described, soil samples were collected and analysed. After debarking, cork quality of each sample tree was graded by an independent panel of e…
Relation of fruit color, elongation, hardness, and volume to the infestation of olive cultivars by the olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae
2012
The susceptibility of olive cultivars to the olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) (Diptera: Tephritidae), has seldom been studied. This article examines factors associated with olive fruit fly infestation of 16 commonly planted Sicilian olive cultivars. Total infestation data were simultaneously correlated with categorical and quantitative factors using ordinal logistic regression. When all factors were included in the analysis, year, sampling date, cultivar, and fruit color were highly significant, but the quantitative factors fruit volume, fruit elongation, and fruit hardness were not. When the analysis was repeated excluding cultivar, all quantitative factors were significant, and e…
Bivariate logistic models for the analysis of the students' University "success"
2012
We analyze the students’ success at University by considering their performance in terms of both “qualitative performance”, measured by their grade average, and “quantitative performance”, measured by University Credits accumulated. To jointly model both marginal and association relationships with covariates, the analysis has been carried out by fitting a bivariate ordered logistic model (BOLM), in a nonparametric fashion, by penalized maximum likelihood estimation. The advantages of such model are in terms of parsimony and parameters interpretation, while preserving goodness-of-fit. The application regards an engineering student (ES) cohort from the University of Palermo.
Sexual behaviors and function during menopausal transition—does menopausal hormonal therapy play a role?
2020
Objectives: The menopausal transition is a biological adaptation to the variety of life changes (body, comorbidities, relationship), but that biology is not an “end all” in the context of sexual function and overall sexual health. The aim of this study is to evaluate determinants altering the risk of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) and other sexual problems and to establish whether menopausal hormonal therapy (MHT) decreases that risk and modifies sexual behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in 210 women between the ages of 45 and 55. Two groups were identified: MHT users (n = 107) and controls—MHT non-users (n = 103). Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of M…
Prevalence of endodontic infection in patients with Crohn ́s disease and ulcerative colitis
2021
[Background] Previous studies have linked apical periodontitis (AP) to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of AP and root canal treatment (RCT) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn ́s disease (CD).

Co-simulation platform based on systemc for multiprocessor system on chip architecture exploration
2007
Currently multiprocessor embedded systems are the principal vectors of semiconductor industry. Modelling, validating and analyzing a system performances impose the evolution of the traditional simulation techniques. In this paper we define the methodology we used in constructing the STARSoC co-simulation environment. This platform aims to explore at higher levels of abstractions a multiprocessors system on chip architectures. The platform reference design contains several OpenRISC 1200 Instruction Set Simulators (ISSs) wrapped under SystemC, and some basic peripherals within the SystemC simulation framework. Our purpose is to develop a complete design space exploration tool. In order to ass…
Remote Sensing Geometric Corrections
2016
This article reviews the different aspects of geometrical processing of remote sensing data, discussing error sources and methods to determine the transformation from the image acquisition geometry to the output cartographic product. Resampling methods are discussed to transform the input image to the output geometry. Several practical examples of remote sensing platforms are discussed, including satellite cases and airborne sensors. Validation of the resulting geometrical processed products is also discussed. Spatial mosaicking techniques and multitemporal composites used to produce multisource integrated products and advanced applications are finally considered, keeping a perspective on t…
Different regulatory models of transfer of industrial property rights in the Baltic States: A plea for harmonized approach
2016
AbstractThe authors explore different models of transfer of industrial property on a comparative basis. The article demonstrates that these models differ on a country level and several models may be in use in one legal system. The authors analyze strengths and weaknesses and legal implications of these models in the three Baltic States both at the regulatory level and at the practical level through case studies. The authors conclude that would be preferable to use the model under which the register is vested with negative publicity and the transfer of ownership of industrial property is not made dependent on its recordation.
