Temporal trends in postinfarction ventricular septal rupture: the CIVIAM Registry

2020

Abstract Introduction and objectives Postinfarction ventricular septal rupture is a rare but severe complication of myocardial infarction with high mortality rates. Our goal was to analyze which factors could have an impact on mortality due to this entity over the past decade, including those related to mechanical circulatory support . Methods The CIVIAM registry is an observational, retrospective, multicenter study carried out in Spain. We designed a comparative analysis, focused on description of in-hospital management and in-hospital and 1-year total mortality as the primary endpoints, dividing the total observation time into 2 equal temporal periods (January 2008 to June2013 and July 20…

Evaluation of the short- and long-term safety and therapy outcomes of the everolimus-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold system in patients with …

2015

Abstract Background Third-generation drug-eluting metal stents are the gold standard for treatment of coronary artery disease. The permanent metallic caging of the vessel, however, can result in limited vasomotion, chronic inflammation, and late expansive remodeling, conditions that can lead to late and very late stent thrombosis. The development of bioresorbable scaffolds (BRSs) promises advantages over metal stents due to complete biodegradation within 2–4 years. Theoretically, since vessel scaffolding is temporary and no permanent implant remains in the vessel, BRSs, as opposed to metal stents, once degraded would no longer be potential triggers for stent-related adverse events or side e…

Coronary artery bypass graft versus percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stent implantation for diabetic patients with unprotected le…

2013

textabstractAims: Data regarding the impact on clinical outcomes of PCI with DES implantation vs. CABG to treat unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) disease in diabetic patients are still insufficient. The present study evaluated the short-term and long-term results of percutaneous and surgical revascularisation in diabetic patients with ULMCA disease in a large population. Methods and results: A total of 826 diabetic patients with ULMCA stenosis who received DES (n=520) or underwent CABG (n=306) were selected and analysed from the DELTA registry. In-hospital MACCE was significantly higher in the CABG group, mainly driven by a higher incidence of MI. At four-year follow-up, freedom…

Diagnostic accuracy of clinical parameters to monitor peri-implant conditions: A matched case-control study

2018

International audience; Background: The aim of this case-control study was to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of the standard clinical parameters in diagnosing healthy peri-implant tissues, peri-implant mucositis, and peri-implantitis.Methods: A case-control study was designed to compare the clinical parameters used in the diagnosis of peri-implant diseases such as: probingdepth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), mucosal redness (MR), suppuration (SUP), and plaque index (PI). Furthermore, the influence of patient-(sex, age) and implant-related variables (implant neck configuration, time in function after loading) were evaluated to investigate the association with the clinical findings. The i…

Philadelphia chromosome-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms in younger adults: A critical discussion of unmet medical needs, with a focus on pregna…

2021

Abstract Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are traditionally regarded as a disease of older adults, though a not negligible fraction of cases occurs at a younger age, including women of childbearing potential. MPN in younger patients, indeed, offer several challenges for the clinical hematologist, that goes from difficulties in reaching a timely and accurate diagnosis to a peculiar thrombotic risk, with a relatively high incidence of thromboses in unusual sites (as the splanchnic veins or the cerebral ones). Moreover, the issue of pregnancy is recently gaining more attention as maternal age is rising and molecular screening are widely implemented, leading to a better recognition of these c…

Non‐immune hydrops fetalis was rare in Sweden during 1997‐2015, but cases were associated with complications and poor prognosis

2020

Aim: The study was designed to document the incidence of non-immune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) at birth and characterise associated outcomes and obstetric complications. Methods: Data on more than 1.9 million births were extracted from the Swedish Birth Register for 1997-2015. Pregnancies not affected by NIHF served as controls. National registers on mortality and hospitalisations provided follow-up information. Results: There were 309 cases of NIHF at birth corresponding to an incidence of 1.6 per 10 000, lower than in previous studies. NIHF was more frequent in mothers aged ≥35 years and with a history of stillbirth. Preterm delivery occurred in 77.7% in the NIHF group, including 31.7% before…

Longitudinal Asthma Patterns in Italian Adult General Population Samples: Host and Environmental Risk Factors.

2020

Background: Asthma patterns are not well established in epidemiological studies. Aim: To assess asthma patterns and risk factors in an adult general population sample. Methods: In total, 452 individuals reporting asthma symptoms/diagnosis in previous surveys participated in the AGAVE survey (2011–2014). Latent transition analysis (LTA) was performed to detect baseline and 12-month follow-up asthma phenotypes and longitudinal patterns. Risk factors associated with longitudinal patterns were assessed through multinomial logistic regression. Results: LTA detected four longitudinal patterns: persistent asthma diagnosis with symptoms, 27.2%

The association of bike fitting with injury, comfort, and pain during cycling: An international retrospective survey

2018

Although bike fitting is recommended to help reduce injury risk, little empirical evidence exists to indicate an association between bike fitting and injury incidence. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of bike fitting on self-reported injury, comfort, and pain while cycling from a worldwide survey of cyclists. A total of 849 cyclists completed an online questionnaire between February and October 2016. Questionnaire collected data on respondent demographics, cycling profile, bike fitting, comfort and pain while cycling, and injury history. The main predictor variable was bike fitting (yes, by the respondent, i.e. user bike fitting; yes, by a professional service; or no). Covar…

Urology practice during COVID-19 pandemic

2020

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and the disease it causes, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is generating a rapid and tragic health emergency in Italy due to the need to provide assistance to an overwhelming number of infected patients and, at the same time, treat all the non-deferrable oncological and benign conditions. A panel of Italian urologists has agreed on possible strategies for the reorganization of urological routine practice and on a set of recommendations that should facilitate the process of rescheduling both surgical and outpatient activities during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the subsequent phases. This document could be a valid tool to be used in rou…

Predictors of live birth in women with a history of biochemical pregnancies after assisted reproduction treatment

2020

Abstract Objectives To ascertain whether women with a history of biochemical pregnancies (BPs) in in-vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment cycles have decreased chances of live birth (LB); and (2) to build a predictive model for LB in this particular population of infertile women. Methods In order to achieve the first objective, data from 1536 women that had a LB using autologous fresh or frozen embryos, or dropped out of further IVF/ICSI treatments after completing one to three unsuccessful treatment cycles were retrospectively analyzed. A subpopulation of 90 women that experienced one or more BPs in our assisted reproduction unit were selected to buil…
