Physical Cross Links in Amorphous PET, Influence of Cooling Rate and Ageing
2003
A Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) procedure can be used to distinguish the initial “state” of the amorphous PET samples produced upon solidification from the melt at different cooling rates. The material frozen at this stage behaves as a rubber when brought above the Tg due to the onset of physical cross links. The rubber is not a stable network, however, since physical cross links may eventually dissolve. Their size distribution, and possibly their number, depend on cooling rate and ageing. Some may be even stable above the glass transition and act as nuclei for further crystallization from the glass. Upon increasing cooling rate, size distribution becomes smaller and stability of …
Localized Motion in Supercooled Glycerol as Measured by 2 H-NMR Spin-Lattice Relaxation and Incoherent Neutron Scattering
1991
Selectively deuterated glycerol has been subjected to 2H-NMR spin-lattice relaxation and quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments. The measurements yield relaxation rates and a non-Gaussian Q-dependence of the Debye-Waller factor which are different for the two hydrogen sites. The data analysis shows that below the onset of the glass transition α-process the hydrogens perform a local motion (≈ 10-12 s) in addition to what is expected from harmonic phonons. The resulting mean-square displacements are highly temperature dependent but are significantly smaller than those found in van der Waals glasses. Amplitudes and activation energies of the carbon-bonded and oxygen-bonded hydrogens are …
An Adaptive Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers
2021
AbstractThe alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is a powerful splitting algorithm for linearly constrained convex optimization problems. In view of its popularity and applicability, a growing attention is drawn toward the ADMM in nonconvex settings. Recent studies of minimization problems for nonconvex functions include various combinations of assumptions on the objective function including, in particular, a Lipschitz gradient assumption. We consider the case where the objective is the sum of a strongly convex function and a weakly convex function. To this end, we present and study an adaptive version of the ADMM which incorporates generalized notions of convexity and penalty…
The effect of macromolecular architecture of ethylene copolymers with multi-alkenylsilsesquioxane on morphological, rheological and dynamic mechanica…
2021
Abstract The influence of the degree and the way of incorporation of multi-alkenylsilsesquioxane into the polymer chain on morphological, rheological and dynamic mechanical parameters were determined. It was found that POSS incorporated into the polymer chain was located outside the crystalline structure of lamella in amorphous phase. The incorporation of POSS-6-2 as a pendant group resulted in significant increase of separation of macromolecules. The key factor in rheological and dynamic mechanical behavior of copolymers turned out to be the way of POSS incorporation into the polymer chain. The incorporation of POSS into the polymer chain as a pendant group resulted in decreased relaxation…
Structure of longitudinal chromomagnetic fields in high energy collisions
2014
We compute expectation values of spatial Wilson loops in the forward light cone of high-energy collisions. We consider ensembles of gauge field configurations generated from a classical Gaussian effective action as well as solutions of high-energy renormalization group evolution with fixed and running coupling. The initial fields correspond to a color field condensate exhibiting domain-like structure over distance scales of order the saturation scale. At later times universal scaling emerges at large distances for all ensembles, with a nontrivial critical exponent. Finally, we compare the results for the Wilson loop to the two-point correlator of magnetic fields.
Effect of mixing and spatial dimension on the glass transition
2009
We study the influence of composition changes on the glass transition of binary hard disc and hard sphere mixtures in the framework of mode coupling theory. We derive a general expression for the slope of a glass transition line. Applied to the binary mixture in the low concentration limits, this new method allows a fast prediction of some properties of the glass transition lines. The glass transition diagram we find for binary hard discs strongly resembles the random close packing diagram. Compared to 3D from previous studies, the extension of the glass regime due to mixing is much more pronounced in 2D where plasticization only sets in at larger size disparities. For small size disparitie…
Novel electrolytes for electrochemical double layer capacitors based on 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol
2012
Abstract 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoropropan-2-ol (HFIP) was tested for its applicability as solvent in electrolytes for energy storage devices. A comprehensive characterization with respect to solubility, conductivity, as well as chemical and electrochemical stability was carried out with different conducting salts. Furthermore, different HFIP solutions containing standard supporting electrolytes and alkali metal fluorides, respectively, were applied in electrochemical double layer capacitor cells. Their behavior was studied with impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry at low scan rates and compared to the current benchmark electrolytes based on propylene carbonate (PC) and acetonitrile (AN…
Influence of different types of astigmatism on visual acuity
2016
[EN] Purpose To investigate the change in visual acuity (VA) produced by different types of astigmatism (on the basis of the refractive power and position of the principal meridians) on normal accommodating eyes. Methods The lens induced method was employed to simulate a set of 28 astigmatic blur conditions on different healthy emmetropic eyes. Additionally, 24 values of spherical defocus were also simulated on the same eyes for comparison. VA was measured in each case and the results, expressed in logMAR units, were represented against of the modulus of the dioptric power vector (blur strength). Results LogMAR VA varies in a linear fashion with increasing astigmatic blur, being the slope o…

Magnetic susceptibility of multiferroics and chemical ordering
2017
Magnetic susceptibility of two types of perovskite compounds A(Fe0.5M0.5)O3 A=Ba,Sr with M=Nb and Sb differing in the degree of chemical ordering was studied between 2 and 380 K. In the low temperature region, these compounds exhibit antiferromagnetic and spin-glass transition at T = 16−30 K. For the ordered compounds (M = Sb) the inverse susceptibility depends on T linearly up to the highest temperatures used. This enables the determination of the Weiss temperature θ and effective moment of the Fe3+ ion expressed by a number of Bohr magnetons, peff. In contrast to it, the compounds with M = Nb are characterized by a higher degree of the glassines and by a concave character of the inverse s…
