Properties of EO Active Molecular Glasses Based on Indandione and Azobenzene Chromophores

2012

Continuing previous research of EO active materials we have focused our attention on compounds employing two types of core nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores – indandione and azobenzene . Coupling of them with bulky triphenyl, pentafluorophenylmethoxy ester, benzyloxy ester molecular fragments, as anti-crystallization agents allows us to obtain amorphous materials for potential NLO applications.

Recykling odpadów z szyb samochodowych i szkła budowalnego z folią PVB

2016

Dokonano analizy możliwości wykorzystania odpadów z szyb samochodowych klejonych oraz bezpiecznego szkła budowlanego z folią PVB. Aktualnie najczęściej stosowaną folią w szkle klejonym jest folia poliwinylobutyralu (PVB). Niniejsza praca przedstawia analizę możliwości odzyskania surowców w postaci folii PVB i szkła z odpadów szyb klejonych. Analizowana metoda polega na rozpuszczeniu folii PVB oraz separacji folii od kawałków szkła. Przedstawiono również możliwości zastosowania rozpuszczonej folii PVB, a szkła jako wsadu surowcowego w hutach szkła.

Near‐IR Radiation‐Induced Attenuation of Aluminosilicate Optical Fibers

2021

The X-ray radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) growth kinetics are studied online in different single-mode aluminosilicate optical fibers in the near-IR (NIR) domain to evaluate their potential in terms of dosimetry. The optical fibers differ by Al contents, core sizes, drawing parameters, and also by a preform deposition process. The data show no dependence of the RIA on all these parameters, a positive result for the design of point or distributed radiation detectors exploiting RIA to monitor the dose. The RIA growth rate is unchanged for dose rates changing from 0.073 to 6.25 Gy(SiO2) s−1, and the RIA linearly increases with the dose up to 2 kGy(SiO2). Small but noticeable RIA changes are…

Synthesis and Holographic Properties of Alkyl 2-Cyanoacetate Acceptor Fragment Containing Push – Pull Type Organic Glasses

2015

We present synthesis, optical and holographic properties of original structure organic glasses based on compounds consisting of three fragments: of N,N-bis(2-(trityloxy)ethyl)-4-vinylaniline or N,N-bis(5,5,5-triphenylpentyl)-4-vinylaniline fragments as electron donating fragment (D), 4H-pyran-4-ylidene fragment as linker(π) and of 2-(trityloxy)ethyl 2-cyanoacetate or 5,5,5-triphenylpentyl 2-cyanoacetate as acceptor (A) fragment. These push-pull (D- π-A) type molecular compounds show good solubility in non-polar solvents (CHCl3 or CH2Cl2) and neat thin films with sufficient optical qualities have been obtained by spin-coating technique. Improved chemometric approach for XRF data treatment: application to the reverse glass paintings from the Lipari collection

2023

The Aeolian cultural heritage preserves hundreds of testimonies of the past that have passed through six millennia of history. Among these, the Archeological Park of the Aeolian Islands with the Museum Luigi Bernab`o Brea (Italy) preserves a valuable set of artworks, which are related to a little-known ‘popular’ figurative heritage. It is an assemblage of small glass foils decorated using the technique of reverse painting, datable to between the end of the 17th century and the end of the 18th century, and actually under investigation by historians. Here, an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy study (performed with portable equipment) is combined with a multivariate approach that allows us…

IMI Prevention of Myopia and Its Progression

2021

The prevalence of myopia has markedly increased in East and Southeast Asia, and pathologic consequences of myopia, including myopic maculopathy and high myopia-associated optic neuropathy, are now some of the most common causes of irreversible blindness. Hence, strategies are warranted to reduce the prevalence of myopia and the progression to high myopia because this is the main modifiable risk factor for pathologic myopia. On the basis of published population-based and interventional studies, an important strategy to reduce the development of myopia is encouraging schoolchildren to spend more time outdoors. As compared with other measures, spending more time outdoors is the safest strategy…
