Interacción entre el Monzón de África Occidental y el clima Mediterráneo en verano: Artículo de revisión

2014

Although in the framework of the global climate research the Mediterranean climate variability and the West African Monsoon (WAM) dynamics have been considered for a long time as “passive” systems, i.e., prone to the influence of large scale ocean and atmospheric variability, over the last decade many studies have been dedicated to the WAM-Mediterranean interaction and the active role of these climate systems has been highlighted. This article presents the WAM-Mediterranean teleconnection through an overview of the recent literature, describing the observational evidences and the dynamical mechanisms underlying this climate teleconnection. The influence of the Mediterranean Sea thermal anom…

Generation Z and Organizational Listening on Social Media

2020

Young people are avid users of social media and have appeared as a powerful force for social change, as shown by the ranks of those who have joined Greta Thunberg in the global climate movement. In addition to challenging political institutions and governments, young people today are also holding the corporate world accountable. To respond to young people’s expectations, brands, and organizations have turned to social media to interact and build relationships with them. However, critics have lamented that these attempts often fail and that young people’s trust in institutions, brands, and organizations continues to decline. This article asks how young people perceive organizational listenin…

GLI ANTROPOLOGI SOCIOCULTURALI E LA “SOSTENIBILITÀ”. ALCUNE PROSPETTIVE

2023

The chapter proposes a critical discussion of the notions of sustainability and sustainable development. It should be noted that the global and national policies of "sustainable development" implemented in the last thirty years have failed to stop the worsening of the planetary crisis and of climate change of anthropogenic origin at the planetary level. We then go over some of the main lines of reflection and analysis on these issues within socio-cultural anthropology

Ever since the beginning of international climate conservation politics there has been variation across nations in political traditions in debating the climate issue. Political decision-makers have interpreted the scientific findings on global warming with different emphases, thereby giving rise to variation in views on preferred national or international solutions. These tensions first became evident before and during the Earth Summit of the United Nations in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, when the United Nations Climate Change Convention was prepared and eventually signed. This article discusses the historical background of international climate conservation politics and illustrates the tensions…

Moroccan Climate in the Present and Future: Combined View from Observational Data and Regional Climate Scenarios

2008

The impact of climate change on water availability in the Middle East and the Upper Jordan catchment (UJC) is investigated by dynamic downscaling of ECHAM4 time slices and subsequent hydrological modelling. Two time slices (1961–90 and 2070–99) of the global climate scenario B2 of ECHAM4 were dynamically downscaled with the meteorological model MM5 in two nesting steps of 54 km and 18 km resolution. The meteorological fields were used to drive a physically based hydrological model, computing in detail the surface and subsurface water flow and water balance of the UJC.

Globālo klimata pārmaiņu novēršanas politikas izvērtējums

2020

Infection success of Echinoparyphium aconiatum (Trematoda) in its snail host under high temperature: role of host resistance

2014

Background Extreme weather events such as summer heat waves become more frequent owing to global climate change and are predicted to alter disease dynamics. This is because high temperatures can reduce host immune function. Predicting the impact of climate change on host-parasite interactions is, however, difficult as temperature may also affect parasite infective stages and other host characteristics determining the outcome of interaction. Methods Two experiments were conducted to investigate these phenomena in a Lymnaea stagnalis–Echinoparyphium aconiatum (Trematoda) interaction. In the first experiment, the effects of exposure of snails to experimental heat waves [maintenance at 25°C vs.…
