Abstract The δ18O record of well-preserved shells of the inoceramid Inoceramus hercules from the Upohlavy working quarry (Czech Republic) provides an insight into the climate variability in the late Turonian benthic environment of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Similar to modern bivalves, this inoceramid species built its shell near equilibrium with the oxygen isotope value of the ambient water. Due to the nearly year-round shell growth, sequentially sampled δ18O values allowed to estimate the narrowest sub-annual temperatures fluctuations that prevailed during lifetime of the organisms. The increasing abundances of the thermophilous black sea urchin Arbacia lixula in the Mediterranean Sea are attributed to the Western Mediterranean warming. However, few data are available on the potential impact of this warming on A. lixula in combination with other global stressors such as ocean acidification. The aim of this study is to investigate the interactive effects of increased temperature and of decreased pH on fertilization and early development of A. lixula. Suborbital climate variability during Marine Isotopic Stage 5 in the central Mediterranean basin: evidence from calcareous plankton record

Abstract New faunal and floral records from Ocean Drilling Project Hole 963A, resolved at ∼80-year spacing, provide evidence of suborbital scale climate variability in the central Mediterranean Sea throughout Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5. Lake-level changes and fire history at Lagunillo del Tejo (Spain) during the last millennium: Climate or humans?

Hydroclimatic variability is expected to be affected by global warming in the Mediterranean region where climate, fire and human activities are known to be interdependent. The latter is examined here for the past millennium by studying paleoenvironmental indicators from a sedimentary sequence at Lagunillo del Tejo (Cuenca, central Spain).
