Regioselective Glycosylation of Glucosamine and Galactosamine Derivates Using O-Pivaloyl Galactosyl Donors

2003

Penta-O-pivaloyl-galactopyranose and tetra-O-pivaloyl-galactopyranosyl bromide after electrophilic activation reacted with 6-O-protected 2-azido-galactosides to give the precursor structures of the Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen disaccharide with high regioselectivity, but low yield. With 4,6-Obenzylidene protected 2-azidogalactosides and 2-O-pivaloyl phenylthio galactosides, T-antigen disaccharides of this type were obtained in good yields. Glycosylation reactions of 4,6-O-benzylidene protected glucosamine derivatives with O-pivaloyl protected galactosyl bromide efficiently gave lactolactosamine disaccharides. Even a thioglycoside was efficiently galactosylated by this method resulting in the…

Cerebrospinal fluid glucose and lactate concentrations after traumatic brain injury

2021

In patients…

Activity of acid hydrolases in skeletal muscle of untrained, trained and detrained mice of different ages.

1978

The activities of p-nitrophenylphosphatase, beta-glucuronidase and beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase from crude skeletal muscle homogenates of 4 and 7 months old mice were assayed after short-term intensive and long-term moderate training and after terminated training. In the older untrained mice the activity of the hydrolases was higher than in the younger mice. The level increased with training and this increase was far more pronounced in the older animals. Cessation of training for 7 and 21 days decreased this activity in the older animals but it was again increased 42 days later and close to the level observed in the trained mice. In young mice 3 days' terminated training increased the activ…

OGT and OGA expression in postmenopausal skeletal muscle associates with hormone replacement therapy and muscle cross-sectional area

2013

Protein glycosylation via O-linked N-acetylglucosaminylation (O-GlcNAcylation) is an important post-translational regulatory mechanism mediated by O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) and responsive to nutrients and stress. OGT attaches an O-GlcNAc moiety to proteins, while O-GlcNAcase (OGA) catalyzes O-GlcNAc removal. In skeletal muscle of experimental animals, prolonged increase in O-GlcNAcylation associates with age and muscle atrophy. Here we examined the effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and power training (PT) on muscle OGT and OGA gene expression in postmenopausal women generally prone to age-related muscle weakness. In addition, the associations of OGT and OGA gene expressions with…

OARSI/OMERACT Initiative to Define States of Severity and Indication for Joint Replacement in Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis. An OMERACT 10 Special Inte…

2011

Objective. To define pain and physical function cutpoints that would, coupled with structural severity, define a surrogate measure of “need for joint replacement surgery,” for use as an outcome measure for potential structure-modifying interventions for osteoarthritis (OA).Methods.New scores were developed for pain and physical function in knee and hip OA. A cross-sectional international study in 1909 patients was conducted to define data-driven cutpoints corresponding to the orthopedic surgeons’ indication for joint replacement. A post hoc analysis of 8 randomized clinical trials (1379 patients) evaluated the prevalence and validity of cutpoints, among patients with symptomatic hip/knee OA.…

Desarrollo de metodologías sostenibles de análisis

2017

SERS detection of cell surface and intracellular components of microorganisms using nano-aggregated Ag substrate

2016

Abstract The intracellular and cell surface composition and structural features of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria were identified using near-infrared surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The structural differences of components that reside in the cell envelope are manifested by their SERS spectra, e.g. gram-negative vs. gram-positive. Silver particles were used as a SERS substrate by exploiting the existence of strong local electromagnetic fields (hot spots) within nanoscale aggregates of the particles. The aggregation of silver nanoparticles was induced by magnesium ions. These hot spots reduce the screening length of the double layer. The obtained SERS spectra showed excell…
