Optimizing the Sampling Area across an Old-Growth Forest via UAV-Borne Laser Scanning, GNSS, and Radial Surveying

2022

Aboveground biomass, volume, and basal area are among the most important structural attributes in forestry. Direct measurements are cost-intensive and time-consuming, especially for old-growth forests exhibiting a complex structure over a rugged topography. We defined a methodology to optimize the plot size and the (total) sampling area, allowing for structural attributes with a tolerable error to be estimated. The plot size was assessed by analyzing the semivariogram of a CHM model derived via UAV laser scanning, while the sampling area was based on the calculation of the absolute relative error as a function of allometric relationships. The allometric relationships allowed the structural …

RILIEVO IN MODALITÀ DINAMICA DEL PARCO NINNI CASSARÀ A PALERMO E SVILUPPO DI UN APPLICATIVO PER LA GESTIONE DELLA MANUTENZIONE

2014

Sensors / Cross-country skiing analysis and ski technique detection by high-precision kinematic global navigation satellite system

2019

Cross-country skiing (XCS) embraces a broad variety of techniques applied like a gear system according to external conditions, slope topography, and skier-related factors. The continuous detection of applied skiing techniques and cycle characteristics by application of unobtrusive sensor technology can provide useful information to enhance the quality of training and competition. (1) Background: We evaluated the possibility of using a high-precision kinematic global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to detect cross-country skiing classical style technique. (2) Methods: A world-class male XC skier was analyzed during a classical style 5.3-km time trial recorded with a high-precision kinemat…

APPLICABIILITA’ DELL’APPROCCIO MULTICOSTELLATION CON L’AUSILIO DI SOFTWARE COMMERCIALI NELLA RETE UNIPA

2012

2013

In the context of scientific research developed in recent years by DICAM, University of Palermo, a trend that is particularly interesting and multidisciplinary concerning the use of GNSS techniques in NRTK for applications of road accidents. The detections of the information relating to the left road today are conducted with standardized mode between those of local police; regarding the real relief it is realized with triangulation techniques, with the aid of manual instrumentation consists casters metrics in plastic or steel wires. The GNSS techniques in NRTK lend themselves well to this type of survey, the high information content and to manage different metadata (maps, coordinates, photo…

On the Accuracy of Cadastral Marks: Statistical Analyses to Assess the Congruence among GNSS-Based Positioning and Official Maps

2022

Cadastral marks constitute a dense source of information for topographical surveys required to update cadastral maps. Historically, in Italy, cadastral marks have been the cartographic network for the implementation of mapping updates. Different sources of cadastral marks can be used by cadastral surveyors. In recent years, the cadastre is moving toward a digital world, and with the advancement of surveying technology, GNSS CORS technology has emerged in the positioning of cadastral marks. An analysis of congruence among cadastral marks using GNSS CORS and official maps is missing. Thus, this work aims to analyze the positional accuracy of some cadastral marks, located in Palermo, Italy, wi…
