New Porphyrin/Fe-Loaded TiO2 Composites as Heterogeneous Photo-Fenton Catalysts for the Efficient Degradation of 4-Nitrophenol
2013
A new class of porphyrin(Pp)/Fe co-loaded TiO2 composites opportunely prepared by impregnation of [5,10,15,20-tetra(4-tert-butylphenyl)] porphyrin (H2Pp) or Cu(II)[5,10,15,20-tetra(4-tert-butylphenyl)] porphyrin (CuPp) onto Fe-loaded TiO2 particles showed high activities by carrying out the degradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) as probe reaction in aqueous suspension under heterogeneous photo-Fenton-like reactions by using UV-visible light. The combination of porphyrin-Fe-TiO2 in the presence of H2O2 showed to be more efficient than the simple bare TiO2 or Fe-TiO2.
Untersuchungen zum oxidativen abbau nativer cellulose, 4. Stöchiometrische verhältnisse zwischen der anzahl der entstehenden spaltstellen, dem sauers…
1978
An investigation of the kinetics of cellulose degradation confirms the scheme proposed by G. V. Schulz and Mertes with the following modifications: the fast pre-stage of the degradation is missing, because there are no faster cleaving bonds in the native cellulose; the first step of the degradation (pre-oxidation) in agreement with the above mentioned authors consists in the uptake of an oxygen atom: in the second step, the scisson proper, the scheme of Staudinger and Roos is replaced by the newer and better founded scheme of Haskins and Hogsed, assuming an alkoxy-elimination; the third step (post-oxidation) finally consists in a limited number of substeps leading to a splitting off of abou…
The Photocatalytic Activity of Novel, Substituted Porphyrin/TiO2-Based Composites
2010
Four novel porphyrins, 5-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, 5,15-di-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy] phenyl porphyrin, 5,10,15-tri-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetra-[3-(3-phenoxy)- propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, and their corresponding Cu(II) porphyrins, were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. The photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in aq. suspension was used to determine the photocatalytic activity of polycrystalline TiO2 samples which had been impregnated with the Cu(II) porphyrins, as sensitizers. The photocatalytic activity of the composite depends mainly on the amount of sensitizer on the TiO2 surface rather than the nature of the substituted porphyrins.
Organophosphonate utilization by the wild‐type strain of cladosporium resinae
1997
We studied the biodegradation of compounds containing phosphorus‐to‐carbon bond by using wild‐type strain of Cladosporium resinae. The substrate specificity of the strain was studied and we found that it is able to utilize a range of structurally diverse organophosphonates as a sole source of phosphorus. This ability is inducible as indicated by the presence of a lag phase of the growth. A popular herbicide glyphosate is also degraded by the fungi. This indicates that Cladosporium resinae may play an important role in biodegradation of this herbicide. The strain which we used, however, did not metabolise any phosphonates when they served as the sole carbon or nitrogen sources.
Cell degradation detection based on an inter-cell approach
2017
Fault management is a crucial part of cellular network management systems. The status of the base stations is usually monitored by well-defined key performance indicators (KPIs). The approaches for cell degradation detection are based on either intra-cell or inter-cell analysis of the KPIs. In intra-cell analysis, KPI profiles are built based on their local history data whereas in inter-cell analysis, KPIs of one cell are compared with the corresponding KPIs of the other cells. In this work, we argue in favor of the inter-cell approach and apply a degradation detection method that is able to detect a sleeping cell that could be difficult to observe using traditional intra-cell methods. We d…
A Noxious Weed Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (Ragweed) as Sustainable Feedstock for Methane Production and Metals Immobilization
2023
Plants of the Ambrosia genus are invasive and cause many ecological problems, including the oppression of the growth of agricultural crops and native plants, land depletion, and the production of strong allergens. The use of weeds as a sustainable feedstock for biogas production, either methane or hydrogen, is a promising way to fulfill the energy needs of the current generation, eliminate the depletion of non-renewable carbon resources, and preserve the ecosystem degradation caused by invasive species impacts. A diversified microbial community was used as inoculum and Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. biomass as a substrate for anaerobic degradation and methane production. In this regard, the dev…
Toward the Understanding of the Photophysics and Photochemistry of 1-Nitronaphthalene under Solar Radiation: The First Theoretical Evidence of a Phot…
2015
1-Nitronaphthalene belongs to the class of nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and constitutes an atmospheric pollutant commonly found in urban environments due to its production during incomplete combustions. On the basis of CASPT2//CASSCF quantum chemical calculations, the photophysics and photochemistry of the system under solar exposure have for the first time been studied. According to the characteristics of the incident radiation (either UVA or UVB, both present in the portion of the solar spectrum reaching the earth), a different excited state will be mainly populated. In both cases, the main decay path undertaken by the corresponding bright state leads to an efficient intersy…
Material flows, efficiency and decoupling: Latvia's case study
2019
Latvia with its growing economy and intensive use of biomass is one of the biggest per capita natural resource consumers in Europe. If current patterns of resource use are maintained, environmental degradation and depletion of natural resources will continue. This paper looks at the resource flows in Latvia (1995 to 2016) - the country that does not have fossil energy resource deposits and timber industry is an important economic sector contributing most to the direct material input. It analyses the main resource flows, its intensities and looks at the main drivers behind these changes. Results demonstrate that resource extraction and consumption is steadily increasing and are not decoupled…
